This text emphasizes real-life business situations, employing a conversational style to capture the dynamics of business communication. It teaches business communication skills and examines communication techniques. Its chapter openers feature real companies, and its real-world examples, real-company cases and involved writing style all bring the subject to life. In this fourth edition the technology and intercultural chapters have been revised and brought forward to the start of the book, two-thirds of the chapter opening vignettes are new, and greater emphasis is placed on the writing process and audience-centred messages. Half of the memo- and letter-writing cases are new, and each is now categorized by academic discipline (e.g. finance, management, accounting, etc) and by the focus of the exercise to emphasize writing across the curriculum.

My teacher had to accommodate the rest of us who had this version instead of the latest version. However, the information was identical! Prior to tests we had to make sure she stated the title of the chapter so we knew which chapters to consult on the open book exams. I would recommend this to any and every college student who doesn't mind not being handed each chapter on a silver platter, especially when your instructor is willing to make accommodations for thrifty students.

This book was required for my business communications course for my MBA. The value edition comes as loose leaf pages and you will need to have a three ring binder to hold it together (about a 1" binder will work). This package also comes with the information to access MyBComm Lab, check that your course requires this.

The text was easy to understand and follow along with and there are all kinds of examples included in the text from real world businesses. The homework items included after each chapter were challenging but taught good lessons / ideas.

I used this textbook for my undergraduate level Business Communications class. The University chose this text book for the class. I liked the graphical layout of the textbook, and the visual organization. Despite that, there were several aspects of the textbook that are out of date since it was published in 2011. Some of the technical information regarding communications is not relevant as much.

I love used books for required text books! Technical Communication by Mike Markel is a much better text for this course
