I'm baffled by what book the 5-star reviewers were reading. This one is, as some others say, written in a disjointed, stream-of-consciousness style that makes it almost impossible to separate the few valuable pieces of information from the rest of the book. It appears to be a collection of the author's random notes, which he intended to eventually develop into a coherent book, but then decided it would be easier to publish as is. There was certainly nothing remotely approaching an editor involved. My next stop will be to read [...the] return policies, because this wasn't worth a fraction of the cost.

The logical presentation and case studies facilitate acquiring or enhancing key developer's skills before critical project concerns arise and need resolution in real time. Although some entries are brief, they serve to identify topics for further consideration. A very useful resource for the novice (and experienced) developer that wants a concise, portable reference to project issues and activities. I can't thank Mr. Noe enough for his fine Guide. I have recommended it to my associates in real estate development and construction, and also to professors who are teaching courses in project management.

I just purchased the Revised 3rd Edition of Mark Noe's GO/NO GO guide and am delighted that Mr. Noe has expanded, enhanced, and updated an already comprehensive and valuable reference document. I find the guide to be an invaluable tool for a retired businessman with growing interests and significant investments in real estate, construction, and property development. I have strongly recommended it to my partners and others I know who are involved in decision-making roles for construction projects, or who have a financial interest in such activities. This guide is a "must have" for anyone working in construction and real estate development, or the legal and financial functions that are an integral part of such activities.

While it appears that Mr. Noe has experience in real estate, this "book" will be of little or no assistance to anyone developing real estate. I put "book" in quotes because rather than sentences and paragraphs it is comprised of lists of items related to real estate development. However there is no instruction, interpretation, or guidance related to these items, merely list after list. I have been a Realtor for 20 years and help others develop property and develop for myself. This book is completely useless for both the novice and experienced developer. The only consolation is that it can be completed in about 15 minutes. I urge you to save your money, even though the title promises a clear and decisive path to real estate development, the text doesn't deliver anything more than lists of loosely related real estate terms.

Go/No Go is the best quick reference book I've seen on Real Estate Development. I am a developer and I purchased the book for my son who is a General Contractor. I started leafing through the book and was impressed with the advice and checklists that I could use on a current project. I ended up reading the book (and stealing some ideas) before I sent it to my son. You will find good advice on subjects from entitlement issues through the "C of O" (Certificate of Occupancy). This book will definitely help you remove emotion from your decision on whether you should GO or NO GO with your investment. I also appreciate his breezy style of writing. He reduces legalese to understandable text. I highly recommend this book.

I am a retired commercial broker, who practiced for thirty years in the Bay Area. Without any doubt, this revised 3rd Edition is the best book I have ever read concerning the whole range of develpment steps and problems, along with logical steps to solve these problems. If somebody says this book is "choppy and sparsely informative" like in one of the accompanying reviews and rates it one star, and all the other reviews are five stars, I would like to suggest this reviewer is completely wet, and doesn't know what he is talking about. This book is definitely a "must" for anyone contemplating development of any kind. Mark Noe really deserves six stars instead of a maximmum of five.
I have been an active developer, contractor and consultant in the commercial/industrial real estate industry for the last 30 years. None better, Mark Noe's GO/NO GO should be considered a textbook and a Book of Lists on the realities of real estate development. He has a very pragmatic understanding of how it works, and doesn't leave out the nuinces and pitfalls. Here is an author who does not hide behind a purely academic approach. He understands there is a place, however carefully it must be considered, for "gut feel" in decision making. Emotion, NO!; Understanding, YES! An excellent resource for the beginner. An insightful and thorough back-up for the seasoned developer.
