In this well-organized and easy to understand book, the author shares her proven methods from years of hands-on experience. She has worked with giants of industry as well as individuals to help them succeed in their financial endeavors. She loves training, coaching and speaking, and has shared tips, tools and techniques on how to use the assets you already have; how to stay focused on your marketing efforts; how to know what's good and what's bad; how to develop a "marketing mind set"; how to avoid falling for myths about marketing; how to be a smarter marketer and business leader. Along with this goes the admonition, "The more [of yourself] that you put into it, the more you get out of it."

Bence has both the experience: over 20 years at multi-national corporations and more than 10 years running her own business; and the education: an MBA from Harvard. Since starting her business, Bence has become a Certified Speaking Professional and a Certified Executive Coach. More importantly to me, she is the author of five branding books. I will buy another of her books because I loved this one. For me, the willingness to spend my hard-earned (okay, I love what I do) cash on a second title by Brenda Bence is the best endorsement of all.

Branding is important for any business and Brenda Bence's Smarter Branding Without Breaking the Bank is well worth the read. She not only offers low cost and no cost ideas, but ideas I'm sure would never have occurred to me.

Chapter 10, "Does Your Brand Have Personality? Core Positioning Element #6--Brand Character," is my favorite. Brand Characterization encourages you to use your imagination and see the brand as a person. Pepsi and Coke are used as an example and it's a method that worked for me. For fun I started thinking of other brands as people and wrote down what kind of person I thought they would be, their likes and dislikes. It gave me a whole new perspective on how to target customers.

I also learned a new word, ethnography: a branch of anthropology dealing with the scientific description of individual cultures (dictionary.com).

Overall, a great book.
