Highly effective teams, Kohn and O'Connell insist, are characterized less by the technical competencies of individual team members and more by widespread agreement and alignment with a small but extremely relevant set of team processes, values, and understandings. By focusing on and reinforcing a half dozen team "habits," groups can develop the type of synergies that define collaborative excellence. Paralleling their previous publication-6 Habits of Highly Effective Bosses-Kohn and O'Connell's combined wisdom and practical exercises will show anyone trying to make a more potent contribution to an important team effort exactly what to do. People management can be the most rewarding—and frustrating—part of a leader’s job. What aptitudes are valued most in managers and executives? Substantial research and a wealth of shared organizational experience demonstrate that it is a manager’s "people skills" that truly make the difference.

In The 6 Habits of Highly Effective Bosses, co-authors Stephen E. Kohn and Vincent D. O’Connell present an easy-to-read, sensibly presented review of six indispensable human relations practices used by the bosses everyone admires – and likes to work for – the most. With a combined fifty years of experience helping companies resolve "people problems" in the workplace, management coaches and leadership trainers Kohn and O’Connell guide managers through a sensible, incremental model of supervisory "people skills" development.

The 6 Habits of Highly Effective Bosses also provides a means for managers to coach themselves toward goals that they are encouraged to set for themselves, and the end result is not only knowledge gained, but also greater applied supervisory competency. By practicing the strategically conceived exercises, managers can apply the recommended skills to real workplace supervisory challenges.

For the busy manager seeking effective and timely results from leadership development training, this book can become a springboard for solid professional growth and accelerated success in the development of all-important people management skills.

Stephen E. Kohn has twenty-five years of experience as a management coach, counselor and therapist, specializing in the workplace. Kohn practices in White Plains, NY.

Leadership is becoming increasingly important in organizations. High employee turnover, increased human resource issues, financial problems and customer service issues are just some of the issues that are affected by poor management.

6 Habits of Highly Effective Bosses discusses the skills necessary in order to improve leadership within an organization and improve the overall bottom line for customers and company stakeholders.

The book begins by discussing the warning signs that companies should look for in order to determine if poor management exists. The book then discusses 6 habits that bosses should possess in order to be effective. For example, habit 4 discusses setting proper boundaries. Often supervisors, have a hard time defining the boundaries between themselves and their employees. This lack of boundaries can result in a lack of respect for the bosses authority. 6 Habits of Highly Effective Bosses discusses how to set and maintain boundaries.

While the book does have a very similar style to books by Stephen Covey, I do feel that the information contained within the book is essential knowledge to any manager/supervisor looking to improve their effectiveness.

This book serves as a "least you need to know" for new managers and a refresher course for those with years of experience in a leadership position, specifically when it comes to creating and mainting solid relationships with your employees. As the authors note, "People don't leave their jobs, they leave their managers." So often, people are put in leadership positions and give little thought to the responsibility that comes with it. The six habits defined in this book provide an interesting outlook on ways to empower your team so that they can achieve ultimate success and thoroughly enjoy working under you.

I specifically enjoyed the "Practicing Empathy" and "Critizing Artfully" habits. While the authors do not provide an abundance of techniques, they do present words of wisdom that will surely enlighten you, assuming you are open to learning new habits.

This title is a bit suspected of getting the benefits from the similar one: 7 habits of Highly Effective People. But it's really a good book for all the managers. A must!

It was an eye opener. You can see yourself as well as co workers throughout the book. Very helpful.
