'The definite guide to France's Southern Belle' - A Place in the Sun magazine" -A Place in the Sun magazine". This work weaves through the landscapes that inspired Van Gogh, Cezanne, Matisse and Renoir, with lavender fields and rolling hills. I've owned a number of guide books for southern France and examined many more and this is the one I would pick if I could only take one. Rick Steves Provence is good but does not completely cover Provence. After finding too much out of date information in a "new" Lonely Planet I don't trust what I read there.

Cadogen guides are the best - esp. for South of France. they are very detailed, and have all the market days, etc. We use them exclusively in France - good choice! I'd also pick up a "Gault Millau Paris & Provence" book for info on hotels and, most importantly, restaurants. If you are into good dining, that's the guide for you. Reads more like a phone book, but definitely lists the best eateries by town (even the smallest towns). Check it out for hotels too!
