Pretty good story, with some extra good points about abuse of power. My main gripe with it was that almost half the book was a rehash of the first book, before the plot continued.

This book is a continuation of the same story of below the root but told from the viewpoint of the young girl that is found at the end of the first book. It brings the reader up to the same point as below the root and fills in all the gaps and answers all the questions. This is where the proverbial gun is fired after it has been drawn in the first book. It is well done and insightful, although at times the 'action' does slow due to a bit of that infilling. All said, a fine read and just as intriguing as the first.

This is one of my top three favorite Childrens' book series. Imaginative, thoughtful, with a creative and provocative approach to issues of non-violence.

I read these books many years ago, several times over, and thought they were wonderful. Zilpha Keatley Snyder is an under-appreciated author and one of my all-time favorites! These are the fourth set I have bought over the years; I read them to my grandchildren.

The Green Sky Trilogy, and the video game that served to continue the story, were formative for me as a boy. The world is breathtaking and the story is thought-provoking.

Sweet childhood memories of playing the computer game. I purchased the whole trilogy and love having it in my bookcase.

If you read the first book, you can skip the first 50% of this one. It is the exact same story as in the first book just told from the children's point of view. No new information at all.
The part that was new was good but since it was really only half a book not much happened. At this point I don't know if I will bother with the last book because I don't want to go through yet another retelling of the first half of the book.
The beginning of the book was redundant in a way but definitely enjoyed the second book of this trilogy! I enjoy this story line! Almost done with the third novel!
