Missy LaRae delivers a fresh and unique sci-fi YA novel with a very interesting world building and Syren lore. It is a book about twins and the new abilities they discover in themselves, but the spotlight is mainly on Lily.

Missy LaRae delivers a fresh and unique sci-fi YA novel with a very interesting world building and Syren lore. It was great to read about something that hadn't been done to death already in YA, no matter how interesting a spin the author puts on it. The world of LaRae's making is teeming with possibilities, even though the first book just sets the stage for what I hope will grow into an epic space battle in the books to come. The Sword and The Prophet captures your heart early on. The beginning of the book is heartbreaking. I liked her as a character.

The trip had taken almost eight hours, but since we’d left at the crack a dawn it felt like we was just wakin’ up for the day when the train pulled in.

le to Charleston, and I had to shake him to wake him up. I picked up my bag and threw it over my shoulders, and waited for Tyler to unfold his long bones from the seat. I smiled as he stood up and stretched. We walked off the platform feelin’ happy, and optimistic.

Lily and Tyler are twins. Twins on a mission to escape from their perverse and abusive mother and find a home where they'll be cherished and protected. They think they've found it with their Aunt and Uncle in South Carolina, but they soon realize they are in more trouble now than they were before. They'll have to trust one another to survive and fulfill their destiny.

Fifteen year old twins Lily and Tyler are on a mission. Escape from their abusive mother, hop a train to Charleston, South Carolina, and don't get caught. They've been kept in virtual seclusion their entire lives, and in one night make a break for it and succeed. However, something isn't right with their new Aunt and Uncle and they realize they've escaped one nightmare and stumbled into something even far more sinister and deadly. Lily and Tyler both feel the call of the moon, and the first night she's able to go outside and feel it on her skin Lily dramatically changes into something that both fascinates and scares her. Desperate to escape their Aunt and Uncle the twins devise a plan, but are thwarted at the last second. With time running out they finally manage to escape, and find help in the form of a smooth talking teenager named Talon with fire in his hands and an otherworldly aura. Just who are they and where are they from? Are they even human? They must rely on one another if they're going to survive and find out.

Twins Lilybelle and Tyler are determined to escape their abusive mother. Despite the years of terrible abuse they've suffered at her hands, they don't realize that if they make good on their escape their lives will be in much more danger than they could've ever imagined.

The Sword and The Prophet is filled with surprises and pulse-pounding moments. I love your depiction of the twins' strong bond. Lily and Tyler are inseparable and will give up their lives to protect one another. Book 1 in the Children of Syren Series lays a wonderful foundation for following books. Your world of Amatia Prime, Earth's twin, where women and children are revered and the beauty of life and nature is appreciated is fleshed out and easy to envision. I really felt the plight of all the characters and the cruelty that Lily and Tyler suffer is really gut-wrenching. The book made me laugh and cry and almost jump out of my skin wondering what would happen next. It isn't the ordinary YA novel peopled with vampires, werewolves and angels. It has a very unique plot and a strong storyline. I can't wait for the next installment, The Prophet of Dreams.

I did wonder what became of Evelyne and I wanted to a little more interaction between Jackson and Tyler, but that's only me. I'm giving The Prophet and The Sword 5 stars. It is a real gem of a book.
The storyline is pretty good, great concept and interesting characters. The whole idea of the Syren world and lifestyle is amazing, and I would like to know more about the Sa'Chaelle, for example what started their attack, and what makes them think that they can defeat the Syren. I finished reading the book, but personally, I would prefer a LOT less narrative and more dialogue and action, but that me.

One glaring dialogue recommendation for the author: the command bridge characters, while piloting spacecraft, including the transport vessel and when under attack, repeatedly use the phrase, "Acknowledging and confirming last transmission." Pilots, regardless what he or she is flying, hot air balloon or interstellar spacehip would never waste that much time acknowledging a communication in such a manner. They are flying a mission or in a battle for their lives. Their goal is to get where they are safely. And, if they are in a kill or be killed battle short responses are even more essential. They are watching flight systems, weapons systems telemetry, and everything else that is going on. They don't have time to waste saying "Acknowledging and confirming last transmission" when a simple acknowledgement as "Roger, Avedal One" will do.

That's the way I see it.
This story is simply amazing and I cannot wait for the next book Dream of the Prophet. Ms. LaRae has created a phenomenal world within the pages of this book The Sword and The Prophet. It draws you in and lays waste to your emotions,as the characters are so well developed that you bond with them. The devastation of Tyler and Lily's life on earth leads to a path roof both joy and anger at what they and their rescuers continue to endure in their flight to freedoms and their destinies.
Despite the numerous grammatical errors, it is well written and very lively. Ms. LaRae's painting of their world is imaginative, realistic and thorough. Her character development is superb and the growth of Tyler and Lily as well as their interactions with Talon and Ellen and their parents is nothing short of miraculous.
Well done Ms. LaRae, well done....... 4.5 stars due to spelling errors otherwise I would have given 5 stars!
I started reading this book, not knowing quite what to expect. Within the first chapter, I was hooked. This is a story that readers young and old will enjoy. I would gladly give this to my kids to read, no matter the age. Try it with yours. It'll keep them engaged for hours. But, read if yourself first because they won't give it back until they're done.

The author drew me in and held my attention from start to finish. Her voice is fresh and engaging, her writing is crisp and clear. Her characterization is strong and believable.

As the story unfolded, it drew me into a world that is much richer and deeper than our own. The characters are clear and vibrant. I got such a feel for Lilybelle through her distinctive voice that I couldn't help but get hooked.

As the story developed, I found myself rooting for these kids on the run from their wretched home life. When I learned what made these two so special, and what they are actually running from, I was totally hooked.

You won't be able to put it down until you get to the end. When you do get there, you're going to ask where is the next book by this fresh engaging new author?
I didn't know anything about this book when I started reading it. I went in completely blind and not only did it draw me in very quickly, but when we got to the first twist in the story (no spoilers here) my jaw dropped. From then on, I could barely put it down. Finished it in about a day. I found the characters really engaging. Like all the best sci-fi, it's driven by the characters and the story, not the "special effects". (Can you say that for a book?)

Anyway. Highly recommended.
Oh I loved this book. Where is the next one...we were left with a great cliff hanger...I need more! Great character development.
For a short, quick read, I found it very entertaining. The story could have been longer but I have that problem with all books. Over all, a great read on a cold day
I'm into sci-fantasy books, so this was right up my alley. Can't wait for the next book in the series.
