This is the final book in The Friarsgate Inheritance series. It is the story of Elizabeth Meredith, Rosamund's youngest daughter. Taken against her will to King Henry's court to find a husband, the plain spoken practical Elizabeth scandalizes her elder sister, Philippa and polite society by befriending Lady Anne Boleyn. But it is not at court that Elizabeth will find love. It is back home at Friarsgate where a handsome and most unsuitable Scot awaits her return. I hope you will like Elizabeth's story.

This was a great read this second time around. It takes place during the time of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. The queen has no true friends at court until she meets Elizabeth Meredith, the lady of Friarsgate. Unlike her sister Phillipa , Elizabeth doesn't care for court life, and even Queen Anne's desires for her to stay couldn't keep Elizabeth from her beloved home. Elizabeth has great adventures and her own happy ending in spite of the queens' tragic ending. If you read the first 3 books in this series then you have to read this too.

I loved seeing all of Rosamund's daughters grow up and find their identities. Bertrice Small is a beautiful story teller and this book only increases that rep. Elizabeth Meridith is the last of Rosamund's daughters and it traces her love affair with a Scot that begins as she prepares to go husband hunting at Henry VIII's court. She becomes friends with Anne Boleyn, and experiences the excitement of gowns and elaborate court ceremonies and brings her back to Friarsgate without a husband, where Baen Hay returns to Friarsgate and he and Elizabeth discover, after a lot of give and take, that they were meant to be together. I only wish Rosamund had more daughters or we could start a second generation about Rosamunds grandchildren.

The story of Elizabeth is quite intriguing but there are so many misspelled words it takes away from the story. At one point Elizabeth's newborn son is referred to a the niece of Baens youngest brother! Who are these people that should proofread the manuscripts?

This is the last book in this wonderful series! But again why would a mother who had you kind of abandon you? And what upset me most is why a woman who raised your mother so beautifully would let you her daughter run wild with NO social graces? The pageantry was amazing as always but even though l liked this book alot l just felt Elizabeth was smart in business was kind of stupid in common sense especially when she was having her child! But as l said l did enjoy it!!

As I continue to be a devoted fan, I consider Elizabeth Hay's story awesome. My opinion is that Bertrice is a skillful writer and wonderful storyteller. The talent she has of bringing in characters and families from her other novels is a thrill for me, a fan since reading 'The Kadin' in 1979. As the tree connecting the O'Malley, Leslie, Hay, Gordon and Hepburn families continues to grow, so does my admiration and thanks to this brillant author.

Elizabeth knew what she wanted. She became very independent at a young age. She is a very practical woman and has a backbone. Loved having her Uncle Thomas in it and that the book connected to 2 different characters in some of her other books. Elizabeth ends up finding love and finding out Anne was just a person who was place in the path of a powerful king.
Having devoured the Skye series, and finding them to be the absolute best of the historical romance genre, I found The Last Heiress to be a huge disappointment.

The plot is comparatively simple. The reader waits for the adventure and intrigue of Small's previous novels, but it never comes. I find it hard to believe that this is even the same author. The plot is entirely predictable after chapter one. No surprises twists or turns. Save your money and skip this one.
