This is the first book I have read by Kristin Secorsky and after finishing the book I plan on reading more of her work.

I loved the story between Androcles and Araceli. I loved how Androcles was recommended to become a guard for Araceli. But not until after Amara and her companion Chixtus was after him to make him Amara's. Luckily that failed well somewhat. Anyway As he became her guard and stood by her they both fell in love with each other. But there were a few downfalls.

The first was when Marcus (Araceli's father) was to have her Marry. Which she ended up Marrying Antonious after her father found out about her and Androcles love for each other. He had him sold to the slave world where Androcles ended up in the hands of Amara again along with her husband Tiberius and his son Lucian. Amara was a vampire and Tiberius and Lucian was a werewolf. Later on after Androcles was fighting he got injured to where Amara turned him. Amara noticed Araceli's love for Antonious and left her to die but not before taking away her memory. She also left her husband to die along side Araceli. She held Androcles captive until she thought it safe to let him free. Lucian found his father and Araceli in the cell and freed them in time before the eruption. Araceli was pregnant with twin but had no memory of anything when she came to. Lucian took care of her. When it was time to give birth she saw who Lucian was. But allowed him and his father to help her with the birthing. She passed out and was about to die from bleeding out when Oona the Queen of the fae's came and gave her some of her essence. She even gave her essence to the babies. In hopes they would kill Amara.

Second centuries later Skye was in discomfort because Marcus who she had been seeing leaked out something that ended up ruining her. She found out that Andy was actually Androcles but had no memory of him. She found out cause her love Lucian came for her after hearing what happened. When she got some of her memory back they went off to kill Amara. As the fight begane Amara killed Lucian and Skye killed Amara. At that moment she got her memory back. She was in deed Araceli. She morned the lose of Lucian but was also in love with Androcles. She told him what happened when she was found in the cell. She told him about his kids Willow and wolf and her child she had with Lucian Faelan.

Yes I wish there was more to the story or even put into a trilogy. But its a good read and I highly recommend it. I know your reading my review and it seems all over the place. Go buy the book and read it. You'll know what I am talking about ;-)

How do you categorize Kristin Secorsky's first published book, “The Immortal Scrolls”? Is it gladiator? Paranormal? Romance? Erotica? The answer to each of those, and more, is “yes, at least in part”.

1st century centurion / gladiator lost his beloved Araceli in the 79AD eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. He's wandered the world since then (a story or stories which I assume Miss Secorsky will share with us one day), until returning to Herculaneum in the present day. After a minor earthquake, Archeologist Skye Morgan discovered some scrolls in a hidden area of a gladiator ludus of the ruined city; “Andy” is brought in to translate. But, how disruptive to see that Skye has such a resemblance to the long-dead Araceli – and worse, that she is having an affair with an Italian co-worker.

Miss Secorsky successfully transitions between the 79 A.D. Roman empire and modern day Naples throughout the book. Her characters are compelling, and the descriptions of the scenery vivid enough to make me feel that I am there – without turning the novel into a travelogue. She also demonstrates that she acknowledges and honors a border between romance and erotica (crossing that line several times during the book) and between erotica and pornography (stopping at the border between the two, at least a border I can acknowledge – her love scenes are hot, but are not graphic enough to qualify for inclusion in Letters to Penthouse.)

Unfortunately, my admiration for Miss Secorsky's novel must exclude the climax. Events in this book lead to an inevitable climax, one which she quickly disposes of in a few pages. How can we spend 120 pages carefully leading up to a battle, but not devote at least one long chapter to the actual fight? I can appreciate her desire to not bore the reader, but even a modern day attention span cries out for more detail than we were provided.

Despite our disagreement with her handling of this important aspect of the book, I greatly enjoyed the author's initial foray into novels, and immediately placed an order for a copy of the next book in the series, “Immortal Beginnings: Amara”, which promises to fill in part of the backstory of some of the characters introduced in this book.

RATING: 4 stars.

I loved this book...paranormal romance is my favorite genre..but when you throw in Roman history..it's even better ! Kristin has done a superb job with flipping between the POV's and timelines..very smooth..I luved the characters..Androcles is my new book boyfriend I do believe. I luved that there was a werewolf story line that interweaved with the vampire over the timelines too. Kristin even threw in a little Fae into the mix to shake it up.
Then she brings in the Roman history with the gladiators, the Emperors, etc...and makes the reader feel like they are sitting right there in the middle of the arena.
I will say though, after the last "fight scene", it felt like the last few chapters were rushed. The rest of the book was incredibly smooth and tied everything in so neatly, then when it was down to the wire, the story line started to get choppy and it felt like links were missing or grazed over..
Even so, Kristin is an amazing writer, and I would highly recommend this book ..it's a great read !
