I have read several of Ms. Howell's books, some I have really enjoyed and some I thought boring. This one was boring. Chapter after chapter of being chased, but having time for sex without regard to their safety. Only so many chapters like that can I take! Like another person, I only finished it since I paid for it.

This is a good Medieval romance, with a mostly likeable couple. I did want to shake Revan a few times, because of his ridiculous pride problem, but I know that was included to give the story the angst so many readers want. Note to authors: Some readers, myself included, would prefer less angst over silly problems like this. If there has to be angst, make it realistic and not silly.

The story was entertaining, though, and I didn't want to put it down until I finished. I really liked Tessa, and her father's family was a riot. I liked that the women were all so outspoken, yet the men loved them as they were. (I realize that part was probably not historically accurate, but it was fun to read, so I didn't care.)

For those who want a clean read, be warned that this is not the book for you. The sex scenes are not particularly explicit, but there are quite a few of them -- and they are not within marriage.

I wasn't sure about this book at first but glad I stuck with it because it turned out to be a fun read. It is action packed and filled with romance. The heroine Tessa is a spitfire and meets her match in Revan who is a knight and spy for King James. Together they uncover treason and work to reach the king while evading many enemies. Revan almost looses Tessa because of pride but with the help of her family they have a HEA ending!

Hannah Howell always writes a good story, with great characters, history, and romance. In this book, "Highland Hearts", the dialog was quite entertaining. I often had to laugh at the bickering. The history, about the Douglas Clan trying to take the throne from James II, was interesting but a bit slow to get involved in. The story moved a lot better in the second half, probably because I understood more about what was going on, and I became quite invested in the love story. I loved the ending!

Hannah Howell was my first experience with historical romantic fiction...specifically 15th century Scotland. To say I was hooked would be a profound understatement. In the period of two weeks I bought ever book by Mrs Howell with the word Highland in the title. (a rough estimate was about 20 novels) The language was fluid but authentic yet didn't take away only added to the story. Especially the dialogue...who could have thought that words like...aye, wee, lass, bonnie and nay could be so enjoyable? While the main premise of the story is historical romance there are "wee" sprinklings of paranormal...which is my genre of choice. Mrs. Howell also does my favorite thing to find in books, characters that span several books.First as the protagonists then as secondaries in others. In the Highlands they are kinsmen or clan members. Loved it so much. Buy it you won't be sorry.

Wonderful story. I felt as though i was living in that time period. Loved the comradery. Such a fine romance for the main characters. Liked the relatives of both parties. The villians were truly very bad people, who deserved all that befell them,

I loved the way the story flowed and the charaters we're developed during all the drama and danger in the plot. Just when you thought it was safe, a twist and turn steered our heroine into danger. Our hero had his share of demens haunting him that worked to detour his happiness.
I loved it. As usual, Hannah makes the book memorable. I remember being so excited to read this book merely because the prologue was enticing and now that I have, I am not disappointed.
