One. T racy Roper parked across the street from the police station. A sudden memory came to her, sensual and compelling. During the cold Montana winters, he’d always slept close to her, his leg thrown across her thighs, his arm over her waist

One. During the cold Montana winters, he’d always slept close to her, his leg thrown across her thighs, his arm over her waist. Once he’d murmured it was too bad they didn’t live at the North Pole so he could hold her close every night of the year. She felt the warming of her body, the softness creeping inside her, the moist heat forming as she prepared to receive him.

The Montana Mavericks series is new to me and have all different authors. They are a good read. When I read these books it makes me want to visit Montana just for the scenery.

I wondered how his story would turn out -
Dr. Kane Hunter, 35 - Native American working in Whitehorn's hospital and on the res helping his people.
Homer Gilmore is a sixty some year old prospector and hermit - more-so since his wife left him taking their daughter, Moriah with her. Now he is among the missing. No one has heard from him and he has missed two meetings which is not normal. Kane and Rafe has looked after Homer off and on over the years.

Kane called Moriah, 34 in Great Falls, Montana to tell her she is responsible for looking for her father. Moriah is under the impression that her father had abandoned her and her mother.
The problem is that she has a near 16 year old daughter and is very leary of taking Melanie to Whitehorn. Will the people wonder who Melanie's father is?

Kane has been seeing Lori Parker Bains [her story is up next in Baby Wanted] and is wondering about asking her to marry him. He wants a family.
The trouble is that Kane is thrown into Moriah's and Melanie's space quite a lot and they become emotionally charged.

Will Moriah tell Kane her little secret and bring about an understanding about the past? Or has it gone too far?
Also threaded through is Mary Jo Kincaid with her own secret plot. She wants the sapphires.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED along with the whole set as a wonderful bunch of characters wend their way through your imagination and bring Whitehorn alive.

This is book number 9 in the Montana Maverick series. This one featured the town doctor, Kane and a his long lost love, Moriah with whom he had a brief affair in their late teens. They have both been feeling the pangs of betrayal ever since.
The plot is quite similar to Ms. Paige's previous contribution to the series, but much better executed. Kane is a man who is ready to settle down, ready to move into a settled stage of life. Moraih is in denial, she has built a life for herself and wants it to be full - but instead it's lacking satisfaction. When her father disappears, she is thrown back into contact with the father of her child and now has to decide whether to accept the consequences of her past or keep on running.
There was a bit more hand-wringing, self-pity and evasion of truth than I like in a book, but the story moved well enough to make it bearable, and the motivations behind their actions was understandable. More than that, I liked Kane. He was a good man torn between his beliefs and his desires. Moriah wasn't as likeable - but she was still a sympathetic character. Melanie, their daughter, came from the casting couch of Children Too Adorable To Be Real. Somehow though, her effect was balanced by her mother's generally irascible attitude. I'm not sure how well Father Found would stand up on its own, but as a part of this series, it's among the better of the selections.
