An Unexpected Song by Iris Johansen (2006, Hardcover). I like Iris Johnansen's writing, that is why I purchased the book. This book was very different, from what I expected however,I understand she use to write romance.

An Unexpected Song: A Loveswept Classic Romance. From New York Times bestselling author Iris Johansen comes a simmering, sensual story of a powerful man who will do anything to capture the voice-and heart-of a talented soprano. Jason Hayes isn’t used to hearing the word no -not from performers, not from critics, and certainly not from women. He is the greatest composer the stage has seen in a century, and musicians and actors the world over covet his roles.

Love Iris Johansen's books. They never let me down. Keeps you wanting to continue reading to find out what happens and makes you want the next book to see what happens next. Awesome author as she writes many different styles of books, i.e.: Mystery, romance, suspense, etc. Highly recommended. I have gone back and purchase all of her past books. This author is prolific and sometimes publishes more than one book in a month. Favorite author.
The Loveswept romances are being reissued, so I know they were written a couple of decades ago. Most of the time you don't notice unless they drop references to "Nam". In this one it feels pretty light. Daisy's problems don't seem insurmountable, although you'd never know by how she acts. The climax of the books is pretty lame as well. It's not Iris's worst reissue, but it is certainly not her best. I don't really love the hero, and because the heroine isn't too great either I only finished the book because I had spent money on it. And by George if I spent the money, I'm going to finish the darn thing!
One of her older books that I liked very much. The characters are intense and their love shines through the pages.
I Love Iris Johansen books, all of them!
Nice quick read, but don't look for a connection with any of the characters. The characters are so surface, you're not surprised by anything they say or do.
It is like so many romances I expected more from Mrs Johansen. It is just like all the rest of modern romances.
I have never read one of Johansen's books and after reading this one, I'm not likely to read another. I usually enjoy reading pretty much any type of mystery and am not a literary critic by any means, but I just couldn't get into the story here because of the flowery and cliche-filled writing. Exclamations such as "dear heaven" and "lord" were repeated over and over again by all characters throughout the book, which doesn't seem to fit with the rest of their conversational tone (it would suit my southern grandma, however). As another reviewer said, the big mystery of why Daisy wouldn't leave Geneva wasn't particularly mysterious - if she really wanted Jason to leave she could have just told him. Character development was lacking and I just didn't care that much about them. I would have liked to hear more about Cynthia and her antics. I did finish the book because I was curious to know what happened, but I couldn't wait for it to be over. Sorry, but this was not my cup of tea.
Not the usual Johansen tale. It should have been billed as a "Love Story." I'm into the 3rd (out of 4) disc, and no suspense fill activity, yet. And She is one of my favorites, for exciting suspense. Please, leave this style to the romance writers. where, oh where was Eve Duncan and the gang?
