Sex God is about relationships revealed in a way that elevates the human condition and offers hope to those whose relationships are wounded. In Bell's spare, somewhat oblique style, he addresses lust, respect, denial, risk, acceptance, and more. Rob Bell takes on the daunting subject of sexuality and spirituality, specifically Christianity, and emerges with a discussion that is surprising, thought-provoking and by the end, uplifting. But this book isn't about, as one might think when one combines sex and religion in the mind, sin or what's sinful. It's not about what's good or bad and it's definitely not about anyone going to heaven or hell.

Sex, Spirituality,my image, God;s image, what I think of myself and many more subjects are wrestled with from the biblical point of view not only today but from the average Jew 3000 years ago. Easy to follow. This writing is about connection--the connection we all have with God and each other, and how that connection can suffer damage when we have little understanding about the divine nature of our bodies and the true power of sexuality.

I've long been a fan of Bell's friendly, accessible approach to faith--I've seen many of his NOOMA short films and I highly recommend those as well (the one called FLAME would be a good companion to this book). His work is well-grounded in Scripture but nothing is over anyone's head. You don't have to be a seminary student to understand what he's talking about. And with a topic as convoluted as sex, the easier the better. We as a society do a great job of complicating it all on our own. We push ourselves to the extremes becoming, as Bell says, either angels or animals when really we want to seek a healthy medium.

"In reaction to denial, people often head to the other end of the spectrum, which is indulgence. The pendulum swings. But we were created to live in the tension. And when you lose the tension, you lose something central to what it means to be human.

Living like angels can be just as destructive as living like animals."

Amen to that. But how do we find that happy tension? It takes some thinking on how we see ourselves, and how men and women view each other. Bell offers some challenging notions on all of it. Which is why this book should be read. Anything that challenges us so well on questions of such importance is absolutely worthwhile.

It’s always good to read any person’s beliefs and theories when they can back it up with logic and explain their take on things. You may still not agree with them but at least you’ll be exposed to intelligence and rational reasoning if the book is by Rob Bell. I feel set free without having been condemned and God doesn’t seem like this mean old man any longer.

Rob Bell's "Love Wins" is truly a life changing book for anyone willing to examine their beliefs, christian or not. It is a well organized, concise, enjoyable, uplifting, and well supported set of ideas that were missing from the dialogue about what is the grand scheme of things in the universe. This book is just the opposite. It is a set of unsupported, disjointed, and even contradictory ideas that run on and on and don't do justice to the topic of sexuality in modern culture or as addressed by God in the Bible. The Bible is incredibly loaded with sex positive examples that are ignored or explained away by modern christian leaders, so it's the perfect topic for someone like Rob Bell to tackle. But this book doesn't go far enough in uncovering the truth about our God given sexuality.

I believe how we deal with the overarching topic of sexuality will be one of the most important topics we address in this generation of the church. Sadly, I think there are too few books that deal with this subject without taking a side in a ridiculous culture war. Bell does a nice job of dealing with the sickness and not the symptoms. This will be required reading for my kids, any man who asks to marry my daughters, and a suggested reading to any girl who says "yes" to my sons.

Couldn't recommend it more.

Love this book. Love the audiobook even more (Rob Bell himself dictates). The messages resonate deeply and just make sense; I would highly recommend this yo anyone, especially young adults like me, who seek to honor and understand God's heart when it comes to sexuality.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book when I first started reading it. At first I thought it was going to be a book encouraging sex. Lately I have been hearing about many sects where casual sex is part of their rituals. As it turn out, the book is about abstinence. To sum it up in one sentence, the same way we worship one God, we should worship one and only one partner. In other words, have sex with only one partner, in the same way as we pray to only one God! The author explains the joys of having one sexual partner by giving real case examples.

I really enjoyed reading this book and I felt at home with the author's reasoning. I really recommend reading this book!

Growing up in the church it was always made clear that sex before marriage is sin. However there seemed to be more energy spent on the "thou shall not" than how God really feels about being intimate with us... I loved the way Rob Bell laid the foundation for what sex's true essence is and just how relatable it is to our spirituality and not cloud it with religion. It made me realize how our culture and world has taken out the depth ness of sexual encounters and limited it to only the physical.. Please read if you're looking for more meat and understanding into your sexuality and spirituality .
Thanks for reading! Enjoy !
Excellent book about relationships, not only with God but your spouse, I am no currently a huge Rob Bell fan, but this was written before he started espousing some of the things he's saying these days. Incredible helpful, informative and page turning reading. I also like very much the way he writes...as if we are in a room talking face to face! A must read for everyone. (Christians too!)
