Patricia Knight has been suffering with chronic pain for more than twenty-five years, and yet she has found "pure joy" through her unshakable faith in God. As one who suffers with chronic pain myself, I have found this book of devotionals to be helpful in learning to view pain as a gift from God and to experience joy and peace even in the midst of pain. Patricia uses characters from the Bible, such as Job (and his wife), Noah, Joseph, and Esther, as well as stories from her own life, to bring insight into ways that God can turn hardships into blessings. Suffering is a part of all of our lives, but we can all learn to have joy that can come only from God.
Pure Joy is knowing that there is a loving God in heaven, and that He pays attention to each of us as individuals. In her book, Pure Joy, Patricia Carver Knight makes that well known. Patricia uses nature and her surroundings to bring biblical characters to life. Have you ever seen a loon dancing on the water? Read Maturing in God (page 33) to find out why they do it. Are you a worrier? Find out how to overcome worry in your life in Why Worry (page 57). If you are someone who enjoys surprises, The Box (page 155) will make your heart skip a beat. It is my favorite of all the devotionals in this book. Many people live with chronic pain. Patricia is one of them. It is through living with pain that she has developed the empathy which permeates each of the devotionals in Pure Joy. I recommend Pure Joy to anyone who seeks a new perspective in life. This work will make you smile, laugh, and cry. It will touch your heart.
