For the individual who wants to know God, there is good news: God wants to be known. This book takes a look at what it takes to draw near to God and to recognize his face. Then a few months back I picked up a copy of Tim Stafford's Knowing the Face of God in the local thrift shop, totally by chance. Way back 1989, Stafford wrote about his own struggle with my same question: What does it mean to know God personally? I wish I would have stumbled on it back in 2004. Stafford does a great job.

When you want to deepen your relationship with God, you need to move .

When you want to deepen your relationship with God, you need to move beyond simply knowing about Him and seek personal encounters with Him. The Bible’s Psalms can help you do that. There is no deeper, more intense human longing than to know God is real and to see Him face to face.

A personal relationship with Go. It's a phrase you've probably heard before . To know truth does not mean we possess independent absolute knowledge, but rather is a statement of trust and intimate. It's a phrase you've probably heard before if you've spent any time around church folks. Many would say it captures the very heart of what it means to be a Christian, and I agree. A focus on relationship would recognize that believing in God is not simply to affirm a fact, but to engage in a trust relationship. To know truth does not mean we possess independent absolute knowledge, but rather is a statement of trust and intimate surety that we are known by God. Most of all, focusing on relationship means caring more about treating others right, than about "being right.

Personal God - Tim Stafford. 1. A Personal Relationship with God. Even though it was long ago, I remember the conversation perfectly

Personal God - Tim Stafford. I have known Tim Stafford for more than three decades, and we have held many conversations on this very topic. Indeed, my own books Reaching for the Invisible God and Prayer. Does It Make Any Difference? stem at least partly from some of those conversations. No skeptic or iconoclast, Tim is a faithful follower of Jesus who has the temerity and honesty to ask questions that most of us wonder about but few of us voice aloud. Even though it was long ago, I remember the conversation perfectly. Two friends of mine were in an animated discussion.

Having a relationship with God is simple, just as any friendship should be. "For God so loved the world that he gave his . "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16) - then you and your friends can know - enough to prove God is real for yourself and then bless the whole world with God's love. Enriching your faith with grace deepens your relationship with God as it does with others around you, for "by works faith was made perfect" (James 2:18), but "without faith it is impossible to please God" (Hebrews 11:6). So, we put feet on faith to go outside our gates and into all the world.

All of which means that our God will come to our rescue when we find .

When I first found this book many years ago, I was looking for a quick fix. This book disappointed me. But it didn't disappoint me without good reason. There are no quick fixes. There are no distinct steps to follow or techniques to employ that will provide a roadmap to relationship.
And that relationship is what Stafford is trying to demonstrate. Once I realized that, I discovered that this book has more to say on living with God than most others I have seen. It is a book I have read several times, and each time, I am humbled by the task set before me - to know the infinite God. But I am also overjoyed by the reward - to know the infinite God.
