Kurt Wilt, PhD is Associate Professor of English at Saint Leo University, a specialist in comparative mysticism and Native American literature. He has studied with Joseph Rael for 25 years and attended Joseph's mystery school workshops in northern New Mexico. If you are new to Joseph's work you should start with one of Joseph's own excellent books such as Being and Vibration,House of Shattering Light: Life as an American Indian Mystic, or Josephs masterwork Sound: Native Teachings and Visionary Art of Joseph Rael. If you want some powerful music to help connect you to Joseph's world I recommend Thunder Chord,Rainbird or other Native American flute music.

Joseph Rael has been called our greatest living shaman. Here, Kurt Wilt places this Native American mystic in the context of more familiar writers and mystic traditions, from Sufism and the Kabbalists to Hildegard of Bingen, Joseph Campbell and William Blake.

I am very glad that another book has come out covering the eternal teachings that Joseph Rael brings forward. He is a significant figure in our lifetimes and his real impact may not be known for a few more generations. So in this book, the author (an academic), presents a biography of Joseph along with Josephs teachings. Technically the book does convey Josephs information in some sense but, of course, does not carry the full charge of Joseph's words directly.

You see, what Joseph transmits, in his speech and writing, is very deliberate, very significant, and within the flow of his visions and realizations in the eternal now. When you try and convey the same flow of consciousness you really have to connect to that same flow in reality in order to be completely one with the transmission. In Sufism, a mystical path, this sublimation into the teacher and their flow is called fana-fi-Shiek. It is when we have that realization that we and the teacher are one and that the message is really the One being that is carried through our speech, then we are not really there (or "we don't exist" in Josephs parlance). It is the message and the great Being that is living through our vessel.

You get a lot of technical information in this book about Josephs teaching. But if you have come to understand how to perceive Joseph and the qualities of light behind him you will not get that same full fidelity transmission from this book. I found the writing style here to be very Western and correct. But not always able to connect with that core flow that Joseph is connected to. In the flow of the pages often times there are abrupt changes to new topics when the current topic has only begun to unfold. There is no doubt that the breadth of content the author has compiled from Josephs writings and personal experiences with Joseph are a valuable addition to any mystical library. But it may take another generation and other human beings and writers to restate the Tiwa teachings after Joseph in a way that the aspiring souls can really flower and benefit from it. Those beings will no doubt refer to and retransmit what this book is trying to convey.

If you are new to Joseph's work you should start with one of Joseph's own excellent books such as Being and Vibration,House of Shattering Light: Life as an American Indian Mystic, or Josephs masterwork Sound: Native Teachings and Visionary Art of Joseph Rael

If you want some powerful music to help connect you to Joseph's world I recommend Thunder Chord,Rainbird or other Native American flute music.

The Visionary feels intensely personal, directed right to me. I'm underlining all the time. I sigh with relief that this help has come. And I suspect any reader drawn to read this book will feel the same, because it touches our Vast Self, the Self we long to consciously, actively be.

Guidance pops like fireworks in the heart, page after page, illuminating darkness in my spirit with new constellations of associations and impressions. I am empowered to persevere as hopes are validated with much longed for and rare resonances. I'm nudged and encouraged to reshape my attention where precisely needed.

There's so much here. Thank you, Joseph. Thank you, Kurt.

I had underlinings almost on every page. This is a book on how the world was and is created. There is a section on sound, medicine wheel manifesting, a lot of stuff from the Author's Tewa background. To me, it reads like Quantum Mechanics filtered through a native culture. This is really deep stuff. I sent this to a friend of mine, who has a strong interest in native culture. When you want to step out of the box, into something fascinating, this is a good choice.
