The William Blake Tarot of the Creative Imagination is a practical and inspirational tool for personal creativity that features the art and ideas of William Blake (1757-1827). This tarot card deck represents something really new for William Blake - a way to take him home and 'play' with him, to get acquainted with him as never before possible. It is an attempt to free William Blake from intellectual bondage.

I have been using the William Blake Tarot for the past four years and cannot recommend it highly enough. You will want to also have the book that Buryn created to accompany these cards. It never fails to give clear insight into any situation; furthermore, the advice that arises seems unfailingly to come from a place of depth and wisdom. It explains the imagery and Blake's philosophical system in enough detail to make the cards truly user friendly. Without it, you might be challenged in understanding the meaning of the readings.

William Blake Tarot Imagination . A hermit-like figure with a globe of holy fire enters a Gothic doorway and peers into the darkness. The figure is Los, Blake's mythic personification of Urthona, the Zoa of Imagination. His name Los is the inverse of Sol or 'Sun', and the homonym of 'Soul'. Thus Los 'mirrors' both the sun and soul. The William Blake Tarot explores the mystical vision and artistry of the renowned English painter and poet. Through rich interpretations focused on creative undertakings, it has long been the deck of choice for artists, writers, musicians, and thinkers.

In designing the William Blake Tarot Of The Creative Imagination, Buryn sought to introduce new symbology of a classical nature. To do this, he turned to the works of William Blake. Blake, through his poetry and painting, evolved a complex personal mythology in which god-like creatures called Zoas came to symbolize the divine aspects of the human psyche. These archetypal figures, and the energies that they represent, have become the Triumphs of this deck. Amazingly simple, yet amazingly complex - showing the souls journey through life.

William Blake Tarot of the Creative Imagination Four-fold vision spread 3/29/17. This layout is based upon and inspired by a diagram that was sent to me in April 1996 by Anne Maria Rennie, a Scots user of the Blake deck who conceived it as a way of understanding the cards and their interactions. It wonderfully exemplifies putting one's own imagination and this deck into action.

This is the book that is invaluable as a guide to the William Blake Tarot. I have been using the William Blake Tarot for the past four years and cannot recommend it highly enough. It never fails to give clear insight into any situation; furthermore, the advice that arises seems unfailingly to come from a place of depth and wisdom. It seems to me that William Blake himself is invoked with every reading, and that the spirit of this great seer can be counted upon to guide this reading with compassionate understanding of the situation. The cards are beautiful - a result of inspired collaboration between Ed Buryn (who studied Blake's cosmology, philosophy, and mythology for many years in the process of creating this deck) and William Blake. The images are all Blake's though images from more than one work of art have been skillfully and thoughtfully collaged by Ed Buryn. If you are are already familiar with Blake, you will enjoy getting to know him in this new way. If you are not familiar with Blake's poetry and art, you are in for a great treat. Many of the cards incorporate Blake's poetry into the design, and this helps to give added meaning to the highly evocative images.

Before discovering the Blake Tarot, for many years I worked primarily with the Thoth Tarot, which is also very beautiful but in a way that has always seemed to me to be glamorously seductive in it's beauty. Also, much as I appreciate the beauty and power of the Thoth Tarot, I've never been comfortable with the decadent persona and dark energy of Alastair Crowley, its creator. On a search for an alternative, I discovered what I was looking for in the William Blake Tarot - cards that reflected a spiritual path untainted by black magic. I guess you could describe them as "wholesome", but not in any mundane sense of the word. I trust William Blake to respond to life's mysteries with sound, loving insight and guidance. In four years of working with this deck he has never let me down.

I collect Tarot cards and use several for fortune readings and I cannot compliment on this deck enough. The symbolism is very intuitive making interpretation more precise and accurate. I sometimes use other decks but when I really want to read into the mind/reasoning/hidden motive or to get deeper understanding of a reading from other decks, the William Blake Tarot is the one to use.

I can't say enough great things about this deck. It is a revolutionary consideration of Blake's work, taking it out of the purely academic and intellectual level and placing it squarely where Blake's passion lay--the imaginal realm. I ordered this directly from the author, since it is not easy to obtain. Wonderful artwork, thoughtful interpretations. An amazing and transformative way to approach one of the West's great mystics.
