He Changed My Life: (A quote from Josh McDowell) You may think it was the irrefutable intellectual and historical evidence that brought me to Christ. Josh McDowell has published an article in Christian Post. His most famous publication is Evidence That Demands a Verdict. Published in 1972 it is one of the most influential Christian apologetic books. Back in my days as a believer I had a copy and so I’m familiar with the content. It does however face rather a lot of criticism and does not withstand a critical analysis. McDowell responded with an updated version titled New Evidence that Demands a verdict and as you might anticipate, it completely ignored the previous criticisms.

A good book to get an understanding of why the Bible can be trusted. I read the first few chapters then hopped around the book looking for topics that interested me. The book will give you a good understanding as to how the Bible was first recorded and copied. You will learn how to evaluate an ancient book for accuracy. This book also points to other sources of evidence outside of the Bible that give testimony to it's accuracy and claims. There are other books also that are easier to read and more up to date(this book was written in the 70's) since more archeological finds have occurred since then. There is plenty of evidence available to satisfy the curious mind. I encourage everyone to check the facts. Like the book title says, God demands that you make a decision and the evidence is available for you to find it if you want to.

great reading for CHRISTians

I first read these books in the early nineties. They contain a lot of information, a little excellent, some very good, a lot of so-so, and a little bad. The complaints that most skeptics/atheists have against McDowell's work is that they don't like this or that individual argument, or they don't like that he also included documentary evidence or hearsay. So what? He also included many better arguments that they ignore or perfunctorily dismiss while they accept uncritically typical contrary assertions (such as that the Gospels weren't written by Matthew, Mark, Luke or John and that the Torah was not written by Moses) that have even less support than what McDowell presents for the opposite arguments. They're just hypocrites who aren't interested in an honest investigation. Many Christians who read this book are only looking to support the opinions they already hold, which is unfortunate. Also unfortunate is that many skeptics read it for the same reason: not to learn anything new or to discover truth, but to find new ways to formulate illogical rationalizations against the evidence right in front of their eyes.

Hello, my name is Philip. I am a 22 year old construction worker and a passionate believer in Christ; ever since He captured my heart in 2007. I enjoy this book, though I'm no where near finished reading it, because it offers a intellectual approach to the Gospel of Christ with scriptual backup. It enables the reader to better understand, through the wisdom of God, how to convey the truth of Christ to believers and non-believers alike. I recommend this read for a the hungry and thirsty truth seekers out there. I also recommend that one purchase a highlighter and notepad in conjunction with this purchase... This food needs to be savored and digested properly!

Josh really doesn't understand what qualifies as evidence and what doesn't. Page after page of logical fallacies, special pleading, and circular reasoning... and not a single shred of empirical evidence. He is one sided and fails to look through the eyes of a skeptic.

I'm an atheist and former Christian myself. A year ago I respectfully attended a Christian group meeting that I was invited to and posed lots of questions to challenge the group. Later, one of them gave me a copy of this book. I like reading opposing viewpoints so if this book was any good (at least better then Strobel's bunk or the arguments of various internet apologists) then I looked forward to being challenged. Either the introduction or the first chapter said something about how historical *evidence* says that Jesus was a teacher or religious leader, but nothing more (I'm not certain if historical evidence says even that much, or to what extent the stories are based on an actual person). This was followed by special pleading arguments on historians rejecting miracles. So much for *evidence* demanding a verdict.

I ploughed through the first third of the book or so but grew tired of the tenuous lists of verses apparently showing internal biblical consistency accompanied by quotes from theists agreeing with the writer. It may help Christians understand what Christianity says that the bible says, or help believers reaffirm their beliefs, but its not much use for making convincing arguments to outsiders.
If you're going to read this book, I highly recommend you accompany it with Steve Shive's chapter-by-chapter review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IHN4RaUNKY&index=1&list=PL0-LSnSBNIndwRge_xQctsm1UW4IGqztb
