2 A cross between travel literature and parenting guide, it’s easy reading .

Your Baby Week by Week by Simone Cave and Dr Caroline Fertleman: £1. 9, Vermilion. A cross between travel literature and parenting guide, it’s easy reading and fun with interesting observations on the (admittedly entirely stereotypical) ‘French style of parenting’ – from how they avoid ‘helicoptering’ over their children, to how they get them to sit through long meals – without being a prescriptive ‘how to’ guide. If the French way doesn’t do it for you then The Danish Way of Parenting by Jessica Joelle Alexander and Iben Dissing Sandahl provides another interesting insight into the way another culture approaches parenting.

If you ever wished your newborn came with an owner’s manual The Better Way to Care for Your Baby is it. Nationally recognized pregnancy and baby care expert Robin Elise Weiss, L.C.C.E, ICCE, provides sage advice for your biggest concerns regarding your baby’s growth and development, as well as solutions to everyday issues such as feeding, sleeping, and playtime.

Broken down in a helpful month-by-month format each chapter includes:

Multiple quick-references - handy checklists of what to know and do and baby data about how your newborn is growing What to Watch For sections - that address any potential complications or concerns including what you can handle yourself and when you should call your doctor Baby Skills - key milestones and cues you should watch for in your baby including reflexes, eye contact, and verbal and physical responses Mama Moments - to help you take care of yourself as you take care of your new baby

More than 150 full-color photos and illustrations give you plenty of visual references and step-by-step instructions. You’ll also get the latest information on hot, and widely debated, topics such as infant feeding, allergies, immunizations, developmental play, and more.

Everyone around me seems to be having babies. This is my favorite new baby gift. So many of my friends inform me that this book goes right on the bedside table next to either their bed or in the nursery. The author is very knowledgable and practical. There is a lot of down to earth, quality information that alleviates anxiety and makes for a more confident mother.

I was a little disappointed that this didn't have more advice or pretty much anything about problems that might come up or information I hadn't read or been told before. It is fun to read each month and see what milestones are coming up and does give some tips about things, but pretty run of the mill.

This was not a book that was useful to me at this stage of my life, as I have already had several children. However, for a new mother, it is very good. Great pictures throughout, and very informative. If you have already raised a child beyond babyhood, it really would not be relevant, but otherwise great! I got it just to review with our latest baby, in case there was any new information, or things I might have forgotten from the last baby, but sent it back because it really isn't necessary. I would highly recommend it for a new mother, though!
