Federal elections were held in Germany on 19 January 1919, although members of the standing army in the east voted for their representatives only on 2 February. The elections were the first of the new Weimar Republic following World War I and the Revolution of 1918–19, and the first with women's suffrage. The voting age was also lowered from 25 to 21. The old constituencies that heavily over-represented rural areas scrapped and the elections were held using proportional representation.

Below is the German Patent and pictures of two Franz Jaeger drillings with that patented feature. The engraved Drilling was sold by Johann Peterlongo of Austria. In the 1910/1911 Franz Jäger catalog he listed a Dreilauf Flinten or Three Barrel Shotgun. This image and the one below are courtesy of the German Gun Collectors Association and are from their 2014 Calender. The following advertisement for Karl Körmes in Leipzig is included here because it shows that the Simson-Jäger Verschluss was widely sold by other dealers around Europe.

Between 1919 and 1933, German military leaders created and nurtured the Reichswehr, a new military organisation built on the wreckage of the old Imperial Army. James Corum traces the crucial transformations in military tactical doctrine, organisation and training that laid the foundations for the Nazi Blitzkrieg.
