This volume examines the last half of the letter to the church at Philippi. It is done with the same expository skill and practical application as Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones sermons. Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (1899-1981) was born in Wales. He was a dairyman's assistant, a political enthusiast, debater, and chief clinical assistant to Sir Thomas Harder, the King of England's Physician. But at the age of 27 he gave up a most promising medical career to become a preacher... When a spiritual history of the 20th century comes to be written it will be bound to include mention not only the far-reaching influence of Dr. Lloyd-Jones' ministry at Westminster Chapel in London, England from 1938-68, but of the remarkable fact that his published volumes of expository sermons have had an unprecedented circulation for such material, selling in millions of copies.

Along with The Life of Joy (Phil. chapters 1&2), The Life of Peace (Phil. 3&4) is excellent. It is like Paul writing a commentary on his own letter, for Lloyd-Jones, as few others before him, had the mind of Christ and "got" Paul's gospel. He also makes Paul's thoughts very understandable. I wish that Baker Books or Crossway or someone would put these books back in print for the body of Christ's sake!
