Marguerite Henry (née Breithaupt; April 13, 1902 – November 26, 1997) was an American writer of children's books, writing fifty-nine books based on true stories of horses and other animals. She won the Newbery Medal for one of her books about horses and she was a runner-up for two others. One of the latter, Misty of Chincoteague (1947), was the basis for several sequels and for the 1961 movie Misty.

As a horse mad Australian child I read this book in the school library, as well as all the other Marguerite Henry stories. In the ensuing 40+ years I have seen three performances of the Spanish Riding School as well as visited the stud at Piber. When I looked at the kneeling knight at the stud it triggered something deep in my memory and on rereading the book it hit me.

White Stallion of Lipizza book. So far, I have loved every Marguerite Henry book I have ever found. She is one author who wrote intelligently for young adults. When I read her now, I do not wonder what I saw in her books.

We enjoyed reading this book. This is quite a nice addition to learning about the Lipizzaners along with the book. Our Horses, Our Teachers. com User, August 19, 2001.

Made-with-Love
Another fabulous book by Marguerite Henry! Awesome!! we love her storytelling style as well as her tidbits of history woven in to create a treasure worth reading over and over and over again. Funny, I as the mom, loved reading this one out loud and learned a lot about the patient perseverance required in training a horse and in training children.

As a child I read and absorbed all of Marguerite Henry's books. They are wonderful literature for children and adults can learn a lot about the subjects quickly by reading them. A very fun revisit to an old friend.

It is a wonderful story (I am still trying to find out if this, like so many of her books, is based on a true story) of a boy who realises a dream far beyond the expectations of his family. A wonderful read to plant that seed in any child's mind. As always Wesley Dennis does a marvellous job with the illusrations which add so much more understanding to the story.

I would highly recommend this book for horse lovers of any age. My hope is that it will inspire in you the desire to see the magic of the white stallions with your very own eyes. It is truly one of the most spectacular living wonders of this world.

I have loved this book since I was 12 and I am now 56 years old. It inspired me to visit Vienna this past April and spend 3 glorious days at the Spanish Riding School. I was literally brought to tears when I saw Maesteso Bornio's name on the wall in the stable. It is a delightful book that will introduce you to the amazing world of dressage and capture you for life.
One of my favorite childhood books -- You'll learn about history but you're engaged in the story and don't realize that you are learning. Lovely hardcover edition.
