I've been a fan of Carolyn Jewel since her crimson series books so I was really looking forward to My Wicked Enemy and I have to say that it didn't disappoint me at all. I found the storyline and characters to be very interesting but do have to say that the threesome in the middle of the story did take me a little by surprise.

He's not sure he can trust this tantalizing woman-she is his enemy-and less sure he can keep his hands off her. But Magellan will stop at nothing to reclaim what belongs to him. Can Nikodemus stop him before his desire for Carson. Can Nikodemus stop him before his desire for Carson destroys them both? .

My Wicked Enemy by Jewel, Carolyn published by Forever (2008). Carson Phillips ran away from Alvardo Magellan, her guardian since her parent's death when she was just a child. Magellan cared little for her, but kept her in the lap of luxury, even if it was her prison.

My Wicked Enemy book. I adore Carolyn Jewel. I think her historical romances are some of the best out there today. She even has a collection of fantasy/PR stories that I loved.

I really like this series but the author tends to let her writing get away from her. She almost makes it a GREAT book but instead its a good book. Really good. But dang...I'm not sure the author has a clear idea of all the details of her world of magic so sometimes (read pretty much all the time) when the magic starts to happen the writing becomes kind of rambling. Same with the sex scenes. I'm frequently not sure what exactly is going on during those times and I find it frustrating. I mean, I dont need every gory detail of tab A going into slot B but on the other hand I shouldnt be getting lost during the scenes, either.

And I would LOVE to have a really clear description of what a fiend looks like transformed. Instead its like a low budget movie where they cannot afford a "real" monster therefor you never actually SEE the main event of the movie. The author tells us bits and pieces about a fiend when they transform but never gives us a truly clear picture.

That doesnt ruin the story for me, just makes me wish someone had helped her make herself CLEARER.

I still really enjoyed the books of this series and would have to say they are worth the read. Nothing life altering but certainly a good few hours curled up on the couch on a cold afternoon.

I read a short story by this author and decided to try something longer. This is the second full-length book I read. I thought, being the first book in the series, it would answer a lot of questions the pervious book left, but it didn't. I still felt the world she created was incomplete. Maybe the other stories add more details? But they just seem repetitive.

Carson Phillips was one character that I really felt sorry for. Orphaned as a young child and left in the care of Alvaro Magellan. A cold and remote man who takes very little interest in his young ward. She really hadn't got that many breaks in life. A prisoner of the awful migraines that she suffers on a daily basis Carson lives a lonely isolated life. A life that falls apart and leaves her on the run, when she sees her guardian brutally murder a man. Before long it looks as if she's jumped from the frying pan into the fire when she runs into Nikodemus who declares that killing her is # 4 on his list of things to do...

I found the storyline and characters to be very interesting but do have to say that the threesome in the middle of the story did take me a little by surprise. Overall it was a fun and interesting read about a powerful young witch and her sexy demon lover, and I'm very much looking forward to the sequel in 2009...

This book really pulled me into this series. I like the character, Nikodemus a lot. I also like Carson. I did not know what to expect starting this series. If it were not for Nikodemus, Carson, Kynan, Xia and Iskander I would have stopped after this first book. The action keeps you waiting for whats next and the romance development has you wondering what will happen to the end of the book.

Had to get all the series, once I read one. Couldn't put them down. Will get any others that come out.
Write faster.

I adore this novel, especially because of the vernacular.

My Wicked Enemy by Jewel, Carolyn published by Forever (2008) [Mass Market Paperback]

Carson Phillips ran away from Alvardo Magellan, her guardian since her parent's death when she was just a child. Magellan cared little for her, but kept her in the lap of luxury, even if it was her prison. The house was always full of his lackeys and all of them were male, with no other female in residence, she learned through magazines and the internet. When she interrupted his meeting to beg for something to stop her headache, she saw him holding a bloody knife and saw the bloody body of what had been a man, "Magellan's Witch" as she was called ran for her life and her first taste of freedom in the real world.............

Warlord, Nikodemus was on a mission: first kill the mage Magellan and then his green-eyed witch that help him bind his kin with Magellan's dark magic. He had tracked the witch to San Francisco and the silly little thing never knew that she was slinging uncontrollable magic that even the blind could see! Once he convinced her to drink coffee with him, he discovered the witch didn't have a clue how to control her magic and Magellan had enslaved her until he could steal her powers. Combined with his, he would be mostly unstoppable by his kind!

Carolyn Jewel pens a riveting story that kept me on the edge of my seat and hope that she plans a sequel! PLEASE PLEASE! Nikodemus had plans to unite the other warlords to fight and free their people who were mageheld. Once he saw how green Carson was, he only wanted to suddenly protect her from fiend and mage, only to discover she had gotten to his heart.
