This analysis of Black community viewpoints on education is a comprehensive statement on a range of issues which impact on race relations between black and white in Australia today. Following a review of literature relating to the historical process and current situation, three areas where misunderstanding is thought to arise in communication between government and the Black community are identified. Black community educational authorities, in tribal, rural and urban situations, explore these themes, to pinpoint the issues of critical importance to the community's education. These range from land rights and culture to individual identity problems. The education of the Black community's children, it is argued, must be on the community's terms.
