Greg Child is a world-class rock climber, mountaineer, author, and filmmaker. He is a writer for Outside magazine and has authored several books. This is a great book about 4 climbers kidnapped in a foreign country by Afgani rebels.
Greg Child is a world-class rock climber, mountaineer, author, and filmmaker. In 1987, Child was honored with the American Alpine Club's Literary Award for his prolific and insightful mountaineering literature. In 2011, Greg was president of the jury for mountaineering's coveted Piolet d'Or. he live in Castle Valley, Utah. While in the middle of a climb, the climbers are forced down at gunshot. They live the next 10 days in a series of firefights with death all around them.
A year before America woke to the madness of Islamic terrorism, four. The story of their kidnapping, their dramatic escape, and the fallout that left them estranged from each other are story enough. But there's more, when one of their captors, presumed dead, unbelievably turns up alive. It's a stunning turn of events that's hard for anyone to understand. A true story with an ending that changed while the book was being written. Definitely lots of unexpected drama. I enjoyed the book, and Greg Child's approach.

In Over the Edge, the climbers reveal the complete story of their nightmarish ordeal to journalist and climber Greg Child. With riveting details, Child re-creates the entire hour-by-hour drama, from the first ricocheting bullets to the climatic decision that gains them their freedom. The byword of the title sort of did it - "A True Story of Kidnap and Escape in the Mountains of Central Asia". It made me flick to the back and everything it detailed in the story still didn't register with me; terrorism and mountain climbing, hardly topics to get me hooked into a book, let alone when they are together.
In Over the Edge, the climbers reveal the complete story of their nightmarish ordeal to journalist and climber Greg Child. Set in a region rife with narcotics and terrorism, this is a compelling story about loyalty and the will to survive.
The story of the climbers' kidnapping and escape is exciting as it comes, but I find most of the value in the book in Greg's in-depth explanations of the terrorists and their background, the politics surrounding the rescue and the heroism of the soldiers who, by pursuing the terrorists, gave.
