This looks to be a fine introduction to the thought of the integral philosopher / spiritual teacher Wilber. It is an edited version of a previously released book ("The Simple Feeling of Being"), and contains brief sections drawn from a number of his writings. I said looks to be because it is the first thing I have read by him, and am not familiar with the range of his writings, some of which seem to be a bit more philosophical / schematic / complex than what is included here.

Wilber is reaching for an integrated vision, one in which all the widely accepted viewpoints on life (the different religions, science, psychology) have a place and contribute to the upwards growth of human consciousness. A lot of people (including myself) have hunches along the lines of what Wilber starts to spell out here – that Spirit takes many forms, that the world’s great religions are different but legitimate pathways to the same enlightened destination. He seems to draw primarily on Buddhism (his works are put out by a well-known Buddhist publishing house), but makes it plain that he does not want to exclude any widely appreciated perspectives. A few of the concepts expressed here (like the witness and emptiness) would be familiar to any student of Buddhism, but there are other things whose provenance were unknown to me or which might be uniquely his own.

Surely there are some who contemptuously write off Wilber as a fuzzy-headed, new age rambler and who could find inconsistencies or naïve assertions in his writing. But I was genuinely excited and interested by what I read here, and I plan to get to know his works better. The notion that there can be an integrated vision, and that we are all entitled to our unique perspectives and places in the whole, may very well be the direction in which the world is moving, and rightly so.

If you want to have Wilber in your pocket, pack or purse for occasional easy use, think of it as Fast Food for the Mind wanting to evolve into higher levels of consciousness with a little boost of quick energy! I have his whole collection and enjoy this little book in the pocket of my van for use while waiting. Also, a great little gift for a special friend who does not know Ken! Might be a good intro for her/him!

I've read much of what Wilber has written and this is a great book for when I have a few minutes here and there to spend a short time reading.

It could serve as a brief intro to his works if someone wanted to see if they liked his style and message.

I am glad I purchased it.

When I ordered this, I didn't realize it would be so small, but that turned out to be a blessing. I keep it in my purse for times when I'm waiting in line or for service in a restaurant. Wilbur's writing is so dense, it takes only a "thimbleful" to saturate me for a while, so this pocket-sized version of "thimbles-full" quotations is perfect as a mental/spiritual pick-me-up!

Best of the best. Truthful and bright words thst need to said. Wilber remembers chemistry as foundations of words really matter.

ken deserves the title of GURU; or, at least Great Spiritual/Scientific Teacher in my book! IF YOU THINK YOU MIGHT LIKE THIS HANDSOME, CONVENIENT, filled with good stuff, LITTLE BOOK -- You Will. It references many of Ken's other great books. I bought the Audio Book Kosmic Consciousness. WOW! Thanks!! Paul E. Little, Tucson, AZ
I'd skip this book and try another of Wilber's many titles.
