Like a lot of scribblers under such circumstances his short stories are often veiled dissent and subversion.

Gallows humor is alive, well and flourishing in Turkey. The latest major work by the prominent satirist Aziz Nesin, a virtual unkown in Anglo-American literary circles but a writer who enjoys tremendous fame in parts of Europe and the Middle East, proves that a public hanging can be a viable form of satire directed aginst human foibles and social injustice.
