Secrets of the Ice Age: The World of the Cave Artists. Early Man And The Cosmos. Walker & Company. On a winter's day some 35,000 years ago an artist lay on his, or her, back on a stone outcropping in a cave and painted a bison on the ceiling. It was no crude caricature, but strikingly sophisticated art in reds, browns and black. The painting, together with thousands of others like it, clearly represents a watershed in human cultural development, destroying the myth of Stone Age humans as loutish primitives, but leaving mystery in its place.

Hadingham is a true scholar, yet he writes understandably for those of us who may be less gifted. He discusses various aspects of that ancient world, which is so different from our own. He also presents a number of similarities between them and us and gives us some things to think about.
The author includes a number of helpful photos and illustrations, to accompany the text.
Learning about our past always teaches us more about ourselves and where we should be going.
This is an excellent, scholarly book for anyone who wishes to learn more about our history and prehistory.
Although dated, it has come very interesting information. Item delivered on time in good condition.
