The Chicago Department of Family and Support Services provides families with a continuum of coordinated services and programs to enhance the lives of each family member beginning in infancy through the senior years. The department, together with a network of delegate agencies, provides assistance to residents through services including, but not limited to, child care, household stabilization services, homeless services, workforce development and senior services.

Banish had an interesting and useful framing concept for a documentary project. She made a posed family portrait at home of each family referenced in the book. Statements from each of the family members were recorded and are played next to the group portrait for context.
