I really enjoyed this first hand view of the history of an Alaskan lighthouse along with the wonderful photos from the era. It's a very quick read, covering only one year. Even though it's irrelevant to the subject (which is how life was lived on Guard Island in 1951) I would have liked to have known why this beautiful young couple ended their marriage. The author mentions early on that her parents are now divorced and that her father is remarried. The story, though interesting, feels incomplete. I would have given it a five star rating otherwise.
