Race Sex and Class Un. .by Kenneth A. Ballhatchet. This was a generally good book and I found the argument compelling, but the content consists mostly of anecdotes and stories that are interesting but not entirely worthwhile.

Race Sex and Class Un. The argument could have been laid out in twenty pages or less.

Thomas R. Metcalf, Kenneth Ballhatchet. Soldiers & Colonists: Imperial Soldiers as Settlers in Nineteenth-Century New Zealand. Subjects and sovereigns: The husbands and wives who ruled British India, 1774-1925. Christina Schoux Casey.

What policies and attitudes resulted tended to reflect the hardening of racial attitudes in the nineteenth century. That British rule in India was justified by the doctrine of racial superiority and based on maintaining distance between themselves and their Indian subjects has long been well understood.

Book Publishing WeChat. Ballhatchet, K. (1980). Race, Sex and Class under the Raj: Imperial Attitudes and Policies and Their Critics. This essay focuses upon the intervention of race and sex in these narratives that defined the relationship between the colonizer and the colonized which have not be adequately discussed earlier. The narratives reveal the fraught and ambiguous attitude of the British colonizers towards the natives as objects of sexual desire though infected by the threat of racial contamination and miscegenation. Hence, such relations were either to be shunned or controlled by law.
