The American Crusader is a fictional character, a superhero who originally appeared in Thrilling Comics (Better Publications, 1941). The character was revived in the Modern Age in Femforce by AC Comics, and in Tom Strong by Alan Moore and Chris Sprouse. His secret identity is Professor Archibald (Archie) Masters, an astronomy professor at an unnamed university in the Eastern United States.

American Crusader was originally written about in 1941 by a comic company that changed names. The company being Standard Comics, Nedor Comics and Better Comics. These stories are the original golden age stories. These companies and others like it eventually went out of business and subsequently some characters fell into the public domain. American Crusader was one of these heroes. Besides the Golden Age comics, American Crusader has appeared in three other companies; AC, America's Best Comics and Dynamite Entertainment.
Archie Masters was a timid, cautious astronomy professor who taught at Grand University somewhere in the eastern United States. A colleague created a device called an atom smasher, but the initial test went awry when Masters, preoccupied in his thoughts went into the room where the device was being used. He was bathed in atomic radiation but instead of killing him, the accident endowed him with various superhuman abilities such as strength, flight and invulnerability

The Crusader had a teen sidekick named Mickey Martin. The Crusader appeared in the following titles in the Golden Age: America's Best Comics Thrilling Comics 37-39, 41. Revivals. The Crusader apparently (from a Terra Obscura continuity standpoint) operated as a superhero until 1969, when, on a mission to stop an alien from converting Earth into a spaceship, he was imprisoned in an alien restraining device which Tom Strong imagined to be a heavily localized time-loop.

Brok Windsor, Sargent Canuck, Cosmo and his White Magic all solved mysteries and battled evil in a straight-up fashion like the lead Golden Age DC characters. A month later, they also appeared in Three Aces Comics Vol. 1, which essentially had the same line-up as the first issue of Grand Slam.
