I bought this book a few years ago. I probably paid too much for it, but could probably make a profit if I chose to sell it. Anyway, as a saddlemaker with a fair amount of experience, this book is fairly interesting. To a beginner, it would be fairly confusing as it jumps around considerably in the order you need to do things. Admittedly, saddlemakers have never agreed on the exact order of assembly yet. There seems to be no clear beginning, middle or end. Don't get this book if you are a true beginner trying to build your first saddle, get the Stohlman books for that. There are some good techniques in here, though, and the patterns for other tack and stuff is worth the price alone.Mr. Hopper can show you some shoddy construction techniques to avoid and the book is well illustrated but the editing, putting it all together lacks something to my way of thinking.

The hand drawn patterns and detailed photos were produced by Mr. Hopper, who was an American treasure.
