Bottle mould numbers have been used by many different glass companies and attributing a glass container to a particular glassworks should be done only with other. 2. supporting evidence such as matching the bottle with illustrations in glassmakers' catalogues and descriptions from mould lists. Some of the bottle moulds in a 1926 inventory of the Dominion Glass Company's Hamilton plant are found listed in catalogues that date from before the Dominion Glass Company was formed in 1913. These moulds were brought into production by the glass factories that were absorbed by or became the Dominion Glass Company.

Mold Identifying Number 2 embossed on base of aqua Ball Perfect Mason jar. Many Ball fruit jars (and other brands) carry mold numbers on the base, such as the underlined 2 illustrated here. Date codes are often seen, especially on soda bottles from the 1930s to date, and many of these codes are embossed on the base of the bottle, placed to the right of the glassmaker’s logo. This is true on the products of some manufacturers, but not all.
