Her best-known publications are The Grape Cure and Fasting Book. The Grape Cure is said to have been written after Brandt cured herself of stomach cancer. The book may have been inspired by the writings of Arnold Ehret, a contemporary, who taught a Grape Cure course, according to Sylvia Saltman Prop.
The virtues of naturopathy are extolled, and readers are encouraged to detoxify their bodies and prevent disease (namely cancer) through a combination of fasting and a diet of grapes.
The Brandt Grape Cure was developed in the 1920s. Many things have happened since the 1920s, including the development of many new alternative cancer treatments. Her book on the grape cure was published in the 1920s. Introduction to the Johanna Brandt Grape Diet. Purple (Concord) grapes (with their skin and seeds), and to a slightly lesser degree red and black grapes, contain several nutrients that are claimed to detox the cancer, stop the spread, and kill cancer.
