I have read most, or if not all, of the books regarding Australia's involvement in Vietnam. Very simply if I only had room for one book, covering the Vietnam War, on my book shelves it would be this one. This book is well written and explains the Vietnam War from the Australian perspective very well. I highly recommend this book

I've just finished it. A great one. Comprehensive, highly readable, enjoyable, detailed... Everything from the youth of the fighting generation, the forming Cold War politics and its effects on the Australian policy, the anti-war movement, training, soldiers' lifestyle in Vietnam, the battle at Long Tan, coming home...

However, if you are interested in their great battles, be advised, out of these only Long Tan is depicted here in a truly detailed way. OK, there were only a few major engagements in the AO of 1ATF, but I'm putting this down here, so that you know if you look for something like the story of ALL their great battles, you have to pick another book.
