The Beitou Refuse Incineration Plant is an incinerator in Zhoumei Borough, Beitou District, Taipei, Taiwan. On 1 July 1995, the plant was renamed Beitou Refuse Incineration Plant and it was made a unit of the Department of Environmental Protection of the Taipei City Government. The plant can treat 1,800 tons of garbage from the Taipei area per day.

Burning garbage to generate power is neither clean nor renewable. Yet, aging, costly, and polluting solid waste incinerators have been bolstered by a dirty secret - 23 states legally classify incineration as renewable in their energy goals and commitments. Production of refuse derived fuels. The source material for production of RDF is normally plastics that have been previously sorted out from various waste streams or production waste. Today’s sorting plants usually eliminate all contaminants upstream.
This end of recycling comes at a time when the United States is creating more waste than ever. And while many incineration facilities bill themselves as waste to energy plants, studies have found that they release more harmful chemicals, such as mercury and lead, into the air per unit of energy than do coal plants. And as cities are now learning, the other cost is financial.
