The diplomacy makers referred to in the title range from such standard choices as Benjamin Franklin, Jefferson, Hamilton, Monroe and Kissinger to the little known and largely forgotten Willard D. Straight, James T. Shotwell. Shotwell and Stanley K. Hornbeck. Few of the sketches contain anything new or exciting, and most of them assume a wide prior knowledge of history in the reader.

American Academy of Diplomacy. The American Academy of Diplomacy is a private, non-profit, non-partisan, elected organization whose active membership is limited to men and women who have held positions of high responsibility in crafting and implementing American foreign policy. They have served the United States as chiefs of mission in major embassies abroad, and/or equivalent high-level foreign policy positions in Washington.

History of American Diplomacy. and was a long-time member of the Planning Committee for Carolina Friends of the Foreign Service. At the inception of the journal, the Advisory Board of American Diplomacy Publishers (ADP) was mostly comprised of retired Foreign Service Officers. American Diplomacy’s first publication launched a rich and substantive beginning, establishing a high standard that has stood the test of time.
