Turner left both strips in 1943 to begin Buz Sawyer, but a series of assistants kept the combined Captain Easy daily and Sunday strips going until October 1, 1988.

Wash Tubbs Volume 1 is astounding, Wash is astounding, and Roy Crane is the master of the adventure strip. Adventures unfold naturally and blend together seamlessly without ever feeling forced or implausible. Strong characters are developed almost instantly and Crane never betrays them. Near the end of volume 1, Wash is entered into a hobo race across the country. Royston Campbell Crane (November 22, 1901 – July 7, 1977), who signed his work Roy Crane, was an American cartoonist who created the comic strip characters Wash Tubbs, Captain Easy and Buz Sawyer. He pioneered the adventure comic strip, establishing the conventions and artistic approach of that genre. Comics historian R. C. In the Sundays, Captain Easy is mistaken for a bandit and gets hired as an officer in the army that is looking for him. Suspicions are aroused and Easy is caught, only to be rescued by a bunch of pigs! Then it's off to America. In the dailies, Wash and Easy hit the road when Lulu Belle gets married and hires her wacky stepsons as deputies! Out of money and luck, the duo decides to join the circus.
