She has been a member of the Literature Board of the Australia Council and is acknowledged as being an important voice in capturing the. Antigone Kefala was born in 1935 in Braila, Romania, to Greek parents. The family were resetlled in Greece after the war, and then migrated to New Zealand (this is the subject of her poem ‘The Place’). She gained a BA and an MA in French Literature at Victoria University in Wellington. She has also been a teacher, and a member of the Literature Board of the Australia Council. Born in Brăila, Romania in 1935, Antigone Kefala and family moved to Greece and then New Zealand after World War II. Having studied French Literature at Victoria University, she relocated to Australia in 1960.
