The Paris Option, . Part of Covert-One series by Robert Ludlum. The prometheus deception.

For 30 years, Robert Ludlum's novels have set the standard for the finest in international intrigue and suspense. With an unbroken string of bestsellers in almost every country in the world, Robert Ludlum's books have been enjoyed by hundreds of millions of readers, and are widely acknowledged as classics in the field. Now, after the bestselling Covert-One novels The Hades Factor and The Cassandra Compact comes the third thrilling novel in the series - The Paris Option.A fiery explosion in the dark of night shatters one of the laboratory buildings in Paris's esteemed Pasteur Institute. Among the dead is Emile Chambord, one of the leaders in the global race to create a molecular - or DNA - computer. Unfortunately, Professor Chambord kept the details of his work secret, and his notes were apparently destroyed in either the bomb blast or the raging fire that followed. The scientific community does not expect a workable DNA computer to be developed for years. But suddenly U.S. fighter jets disappear from radar screens for a full five minutes, and there's no explanation. Utilities across the Western states cease functioning, and all telecommunications abruptly stop, with devastating consequences. This is not the work of a clever hacker, although Washington, worried about a panic, assures the public it is. Only the enormous power and speed of a DNA computer could have caused such havoc.Under the cover of visiting his friend Marty Zellerbach, who was severely injured when the Pasteur lab was destroyed, Covert-One agent Jon Smith flies to Paris to search for the connection between the Pasteur explosion and the forces now wielding the computer. Following a trail that leads him across two continents, Smith uncovers a web of deception that threatens to wreck havoc and forever reshape the world.

Excellent book, it is too bad bad that now the family is us using other writers in place. I am old fashion and when an icon passes he is respected not by making additional money but by always recalling what is left t on this earth.

Review of the Robert Ludlum book " The Paris Option, A covert one"

I often feel that Robert Ludlum was a visionary. The reviewed bookseems to confirm this statement. At present, Europe has a big problem with Islam and especially his form complex in Jihad.Paris was Paris which is the subject of the book still can not get over with what survived the tragic attacks in November. The book begins with a massive attack on hospital name Pasteur. The aim of the assault is a DNA molecular machine constructed in this building. Next trail leads to Spain and then the sands of the Sahara. Of course jihad terrorists lead a key role in these attacks.

I highly recommend this book to all who are interested in current policy
world.

I was thinking how to review this book, and since it is a part of the covert one series, I think making a very short pros-and-cons list will be the most effective way.

Pros
- Most of the characters, both recurring and specific to the Paris option, are interesting and either likeable or threatening.
- There seems to be something mystical and deeper about Mauritanias personality than surfaces in the book. It keeps you wondering what he will do.
- The main frame of what you expect when you buy a spy novel is also what you get with the Paris option. The problem is in the details.

Cons
- As stated above this is a spy novel, and the genre assumes a certain degree of believability. Yet the abilities of the DNA-computer, which is what the story revolves around, seem more like fairy tale magic than anything remotely possible.
- The author fails to create the sense of emergency which is vital to keep you turning the pages. Leaving the book on your night table a few days will not be a problem.
- The plot is rather predictable, and most of your guesses may turn out to be right on track. At least mine did.

Once again a wonderful light read and an excellent holiday companion. Covert One novels follow a theme but whilst one knows that good will always triumph over evil the story lines hold ones imagination as the characters can be easily related to and there are many twists and turns to maintain interest throughout.
Well recomended.

I started reading this series and I have enjoyed them. So far I have read two and Jon is real hero. I also enjoyed his friends especially Marty. The author does a good job of explaining Aspergers.

My husband and I love Robert Ludlum's books as they are always very "edge of your seat". The book came quickly and it is the third of a trilogy which I had begun with the second, having to go back and read the first and now I have # 3 which is a guaranteed enjoyment. This book is like all but one of his others wherein one really cannot predict what will happen. Loved it and it was in great condition

Great story line...Very exciting to read. I love the characters. Jon, Randi, and Peter. I have read
most of their kindle stories. Wish there were more to read.
A very good story. There were plenty of twists and turns. I couldn't put it down. I really like the Covert-One series.
