Remy Chandler, angel private investigator, is trying his damnedest to lead a normal life in a world on the verge of supernatural change. He’s found a new love—a woman his dog, Marlowe, approves of—and his best human friend is reluctantly coming to grips with how...unusual...Remy’s actions can be. And he’s finally reached a kind of peace between his true angelic nature and the human persona he created for himself so very long ago.But that peace can’t last—Heaven and the Legions of the Fallen still stand on the brink of war. Then one of Heaven’s greatest generals is murdered, and it falls to Remy to discover who—or what—might be responsible for the death, which could trigger the final conflict...a conflict in which Earth will most certainly be the beachhead. The deeper he digs, the further he goes into a dark world of demonic assassins, secret brothels, and things that are unsettling even to a being who has lived since time began. But it is not in his nature—angelic or human—to stop until he has found the killer, no matter the personal price....

Walking in the Midst of Fire is the sixth book featuring the angel Ramiel or Remy (his human persona). Remy has rejected Heaven following the Lucifer Morningstar led revolt against God. Remy is one of the good guys, who was appalled by the brutal killing of Angel against Angel and while he fought on the side of the righteous, he is feeling guilty that so many of his brother Angels had to die. His only desire is to live a quiet existence on Earth and not be pulled into the never ending conflicts of Heaven and Hell. Accompanied by his ever faithful dog Marlowe, Remy is re-establishing his human persona following the death of his wife Madeline. He has a new girl friend Linda Somerset, who helps to reaffirm his humanity.

The murder of the Angel General Aszrus pulls Remy back into the war of Heaven and Earth. Remy must solve the murder of the General and avoid an all out war between Heaven and Hell with the humans being caught in the crossfire. Once again we see all of Remy's pals from previous novel and meet several new characters as well.

The action is fast paced and exciting. There are scenes of grim and funny humor and the story will not disappoint Urban Fantasy Fans.

One complaint, in a scene featuring Detective Mulvihill, there is a reference of him taking off the safety on his Glock. Glocks do not have external safeties and there is no need to disengage it!

I really enjoy this series of books about Remy Chandler. A few years ago, I did not like the multi-book series format but with characters like Remy Chandler, Harry Dresden, The Greywalker and many others, I have come to appreciate how much better we can become acquainted with the heros and the villains.

I hope Remy Chandler stays around a long time and that Tom Sniegoski has many more of these books in him.

This was a really good book in this series. Remy is in trouble trying to keep heaven and hell at bay. I think it will only get worse for him since some of his old friends may be working for the ancient enemy now. I truly enjoyed this book and readers of urban fantasy will like it also.

Thom Sniegoski continues to please and satisfy with his tales of Remy Chandler, self-exiled seraphim, who still takes his warrior responsibilities seriously. Sniegoski's storytelling just gets better and better. This time we get more of Remy's history on Earth, his tangle with a pope, a secret Vatican agency, and his dealings with the other-than-human agents who threaten mankind.

I look forward to each new Remy Chandler book like a kid counting down the days until Christmas.

I discovered this series thanks to Kindle. It's not your usual crime novel, not when the detective is an angel. I love the genre that brings religion and real world together. Enough reality to make it plausible and enough fantasy to make it fun. I read these books in less than a week because I just have to find out what happens. One of Remy's friends works for the devil and the other is a cop that would rather not know about the religious world but it keeps knocking on his door and dragging him into Remy's world kicking and screaming. Highly recommend.

I have read all the books in this series and have not been disappointed by a single novel. I'm always looking forward to the next one!

This installment felt chaotic. With many threads left for an obvious next book, this one just left me feeling like nothing was accomplished. I have always enjoyed the Chandler novels and didn't dislike this one, but was definitely left disappointed. All the characters I have come to know and even look forward to seeing were all there, but none seem to behave as I expected. I hope the next book ties up all the loose ends ( and I don't just mean the obvious - is he alive?) and has the characters acting more in character!

The book was good but not great. He is obviously building to a big event but it seemed to me that some characterization was missing and the ending seemed rushed. A potential recurring villain is introduced.
Excellent. The story keeps your attention and propels you in to the fire.
