As for the criminal aspect of the book, it is safe to say that this one shows Karin Slaughter in all her glory.
As for the criminal aspect of the book, it is safe to say that this one shows Karin Slaughter in all her glory. This had everything that is needed to make a good crime thriller: twists and turns, characters with depth, on the edge of your seat shocks, and new questions constantly arising. For me the mystery wasn’t as great as it could have been – a star is always lost with me when I manage to work things out – but it is a wonderful addition to the Will Trent series.
The Will Trent series takes place in Atlanta and features GBI special agent Will Trent, his partner Faith Mitchell, and Angie Polaski. The first two books in the series are Triptych and Fractured. Later, Sara Linton from The Grant County Series joins the series, and also appears in Undone, Broken, Fallen, Criminal, Unseen, and The Kept Woman. There are also two short stories featuring Will Trent, Busted and Snatched.
Fractured by Karin Slaughter is a 2008 publication. This second book in the Will Trent series, is a complicated case involving the death of an unpopular girl, and the kidnapping of her affluent friend, Emma. The bottom line I really loved the odd connections between many of the characters.

New York Times bestselling author Karin Slaughter is acclaimed for her novels of heart-stopping suspense, edge-of-your-seat intrigue, and richly imagined characters. And when Slaughter created detective Will Trent she broke the mold. While displaying an uncanny knack for reading people, solving puzzles, and cracking cases at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Detective Trent navigates the varied relationships with the women in his life: vice cop Angie Polaski, supervisor Amanda Wagner, partner Faith Mitchell, and Dr. Sara Linton
I believe that Will Trent is one of the most intriguing, likeable, and well fleshed out fictional protagonists I've encountered.

With its gracious homes and tree-lined streets, Ansley Park is one of Atlanta’s most desirable neighborhoods. But in one gleaming mansion, in a teenager’s lavish bedroom, a girl has been savagely murdered. And in the hallway, her horrified mother stands amid shattered glass, having killed her daughter’s attacker with her bare hands.
Detective Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is here only to do a political favor; the murder site belongs to the Atlanta police. But Trent soon sees something that the cops are missing, something in the trail of blood, in a matrix of forensic evidence, and in the eyes of the shell-shocked mother. Within minutes, Trent is taking over the case―and adding another one to it. He is sure that another teenage girl is missing, and that a killer is on the loose.
Armed with only fleeting clues, teamed with a female cop who has her own personal reasons for hating him, Trent has enemies all around him―and a gnawing feeling that this case, which started in the best of homes, is cutting quick and deep through the ruins of perfect lives broken wide-open: where human demons emerge with a vengeance.
