The Men, Lucy thought bitterly, bastions of a masculine world that had become a fortress. She had to accept that the three men were simply bonded together by their experiences. But unlike Tim, Martin and Peter were unscathed, and for her they had come to epitomise the Surrey suburbs and their relentless conformity. Both had found their officer status useful in peacetime employment.

The three men have been closely bonded ever since they made a remarkable escape from Occupied France in 1941. Gradually the calamities of the war begin to emerge, and the comfortable Surrey lives of the men and their wives will never be the same agai. hriller & Crime. Now, in leafy Surrey, the Festival of Britain is being celebrated, but the atmosphere in the village where they all live is tense. A young gardener has been found with his throat cu. artin Latimer and Peter Davis seem completely recovered from their traumatic wartime experiences and have settled comfortably into a life of cricket matches and church teas.

Anthony Masters has tracked down and interviewed Knight's surviving case-officers and agents, now scattered all over the world - some still in hiding. The character of Knight in this treatment is one of sexual ambivalence and isolation, but nevertheless effective in counter-subversion administration and infiltration. Definitely not your average bear. I recommend this book primarily to those interested in subversive activities of the 20' through the 40's in Britain, most particularly those of the Right. 4 people found this helpful.

David's dad is driving him crazy.

When a local homeless tramp disappears from their street, they decide to look for him for as they suspect the old man is ill and in need of medical help. They find him in an abandoned cinema, which is squatted by the local vagabonds, and the old man is taken to hospital with a chest infection. David's dad is driving him crazy. He is always moaning about his art, upsetting his mum, disregarding their sick Gran and generally making everyone miserable.

Anthony Masters was a writer, educator and humanitarian of exceptional gifts and prodigious energy. He was, in the parlance of his spiritual ancestors, the ancient mariners, that rare voyager "as gracious as a trade wind and as dependable as an anchor". Masters embarked on his eventful and versatile career when still a teenager. Having organised a rebellion in his public school, King's College, Wimbledon, against the obligatory investment in its antiquated uniform, he found himself promptly expelled and in need of earning a living.
