The Golden Ball is a collection of early Agatha stories from the 1920s and '30s. I must say that I had hesitated reading this book as I knew it was not one of Christie's better known detective stories. I was very surprised and pleased. It is highly atypical in that there is scarcely a mystery to be found, at least in the strict sense. Instead, we see Christie explore themes of romance, suspense, and the supernatural, sometimes with a flavor of mystery or a crime of passion involved. To be frank, some of the stories are overwrought, with characters of impossible beauty and/or wealth behaving in a melodramatic fashion.

This is a collection of early Christie short stories, before Poirot, Tommy and Tuppence, and Marple. They are all delightful, ranging from frothy romance to deadly revenge. There are stolen jewels, criminal masterminds, and hints of the supernatural. While these are early stories, and it's obvious that Christie was experimenting with her style, they are well worth reading.

I first heard this as an audio book from the library and fell in love. I now own it via kindle and the audio-ready edition. Both are fantastic mediums. I love the audio edition very much because I can select the short story I want to listen to again by simply looking at the chapter markers provided. I was surprised about this book by Agatha Christie. While it is a mystery, they are wonderful non-murder mysteries. It is a breath of fresh air and worth a read!

Great book. I read the stories when I need a little lift. I have been carrying a copy around for 20 years. Then I was going to loan it to someone and it was gone. I probably loaned it out. So I got another copy! Now I'm okay. I can read the wonderful little stories that always end exactly like you want them to (with a nice plot and interesting characters) and you feel better about everything. More entertaining and less costly than a therapist or anti-depressants. If you like cozy mysteries and stories, definitely buy this.

Despite her reputation as a mystery writer, this is a collection of love stories she wrote and sold to magazines. They are good, quick, and sometimes quite funny.
This collection contains some of Christie's best short stories; well worth the read!
