These scattered and largely unrelated essays are both exciting, in that they illustrate the thinking of a great psychoanalyst, and highly frustrating. Many are little more than undeveloped comments delivered to colleagues in various professional settings. Almost all are terribly written, frequently lacking even basic expository development. Of course, that isn't unusual among social scientists, but it rises to new levels here. For many, psychoanalysis as "science" is hard enough to swallow without also having to struggle with contorted writing.

One of the richest entries into Winnicott's work, including papers on transitional experience, use of the object, and psychology of madness (including somatic psychosis). I often feel that parts of his work are actually human experience itself evolving.

A treat to have so many evocative probes gathered in one book, spanning various periods of his life, with good emphasis
on ; work in his last years.

....very useful, clear, readable presentation of the author's own ideas on a variety of topics. His description of Jung as schizophrenic is the least useful item in the collection.
