The book is divided into 10 chapters, each liberally illustrated with photographs and antomical cartoons. The authors describe various surgical approaches to the heart, and proceed to describe the normal anatomy of the cardiac chambers. Separate chapters are devoted to the anatomy of the heart valves, the conducting system, coronary anatomy and variations, ed hearts, great vessel anomalies, positional variants, and so forth. The writing is clear and precise. Terminology and classifications are explained, and often illustrated.

Cambridge University Press, 2005. ISBN 0 521 86141 1 As indicated by the title, this book was originally intended for cardiac surgeons. On the other hand, the chapters on surgical anatomy of the valves and on congenital abnormalities are quite relevant to our practice: understanding what the sur-geon sees allows us to better communicate, especially when discussing the interpretation of our transesopha-geal echocardiographic examinations.

by Andrew C. Cook, Robert Anderson, Benson R. Wilcox. The photographs and drawings are colored and of high quality. This book is a great reference text, not one for browsing.

Benson R. Wilcox, Robert H. Anderson. Topics covered include the normal surgical anatomy of the cardiac chambers, heart valves, and the system for circulation and conduction within the heart. It provides the essential anatomical knowledge required to assess and interpret the malformations, lesions, abnormalities, and positional anomalies discussed and illustrated in detail. Full colour surgical and pathological photographs accompany almost all of the anatomical descriptions, and detailed labelling enhances the user-friendly nature of the book.

The book begins by describing the surgical approaches to the heart. It goes on to discuss the normal surgical anatomy of the cardiac chambers, the valves, and the systems for circulation and conduction within the heart. The provision of multiple high quality surgical and pathological photographs makes it essential reading for cardiac surgeons, and of great value to cardiologists, surgical pathologists, radiologists and anaesthetists.

Since the advent of cardiac surgery, and more especially surgical procedures on the open heart, the importance of fundamental understanding of anatomical details concerning congenital malformations and acquired pathological changes has been of great significance. The success of cardiac surgery is greatly dependent on excellent operative techniques, but excellence of technique can be dissipated without a firm knowledge of cardiac morphology. "Surgical Anatomy of the Heart" provides the reader with an illustrated account of the anatomical and physiological concepts of changes within the heart. This new edition incorporates sections on acquired malformations, includes some new views to take into account recently developed operative procedures, contains more clinical photographs of actual operations and cuts out many of the "post mortem" specimens in favour of the more realistic clinical views.
