Student-centered learning, also known as learner-centered education, broadly encompasses methods of teaching that shift the focus of instruction from the teacher to the student. In original usage, student-centered learning aims to develop learner autonomy and independence by putting responsibility for the learning path in the hands of students by imparting them with skills and basis on how to learn a specific subject and schemata required to measure up to the specific performance requirement.

The student-centered paradigm of the educational process in this regard, is the system-development approach, which responds to the given requirements of the present. Student-centered learning systematically establishes the interrelation between learning, teaching and development. This is an entire educational process, substantially different from the traditional educational process.

Emphasis is on word building with just enough information about each body system to help the students understand the disease, diagnostic, and surgical terms for each system. Analyzing and defining medical terms is emphasized, as well as building medical terms from roots, prefixes, and suffixes. A variety of exercises presented throughout the chapter rather than at the end of the chapter, are designed to keep the readers interested.

The layout of the book is made to teach very effectively. I take an online course with this book, but the way it is broken down makes it very easy to understand medical words. The CD a very good bonus and I encourage for anyone to use it. I find the games to be a bit boring but the practice test is the best. The test provides multiple choices, true and false and fill in the blanks questions. After taking the test it even provides the answers and your grade. The test is harder than the ones I have to take in class, so when I do take a test for the class its a breeze.

My CD has nothing on it for Chapter 1 - I never saw a CD that starts with Chapter 2. The book starts on Chapter 1 - why doesn't the CD start with activities for Chapter 1?? So disappointed.
