Bonet and Wood have done an excellent job with this book. Bonet and Wood always tie things back to linearizing the nonlinear problem in anticipation for putting it on the computer.
Bonet and Wood have done an excellent job with this book. After motivating what they are trying to do with simple examples of nonlinear mechanics, they move into some basic vector and tensor math. I highly recommend this book for starting to learn continuum mechanics and one way of solving its problems on the computer.

Continuum mechanics. 3. Nonlinear mechanics. 4. Finite element method. For example, in the stress analysis of a solid the nite element could be a tetrahedra dened by four nodes and the primary variables the three displacements in the Carte-sian directions. The governing equations describing the nonlinear behavior of the solid are usually recast in a so-called weak integral form using, for example, the principle of virtual work or the principle of stationary total potential energy. I would recommend this book for a first course in Nonlinear Continuum Mechanics. 3 people found this helpful. Summation signs are explicitly used, so if you are new to continuum mechanics you don't have to try to learn the ins and outs of the seemingly bizarre notation at the same time as the fundamental concepts (although you really should learn it at some point in time).

Cambridge Core - Solid Mechanics and Materials - Nonlinear Continuum Mechanics for Finite Element Analysis - by Javier Bonet. In Section 8 possible work flows including setup, running, and evaluation of DAMASK simulations are presented before Section 9 gives an outlook on current and future developments. This holds particularly in nonlinear finite element analysis.
