Required reading in my field. Great to get it reasonably priced in paperback.
Risky Strong Dromedary
Born and Huang provide a good treatment of lattice vibrations in ionic crystals (LiF, NaF, NaCl, etc.), especially in terms of the dielectric constant. This book does not treat many non-ionic solids, however. There is no treatment of ferroelectrics likes SrTiO3. The book does provide a good introduction to phonon dispersion relationships; even books and articles on ferroelectrics reference Born and Huang as a general introduction to the topic.

This is not only the first, but still one of the best, explicit formulation of the Born-Oppenheimer approach, which stands as the basis for most of the quantum chemistry.
